Full credit belongs to bamahammer.com for this information (Link). I started following Alabama basketball in the early 80's so I can remember some of the games in that time period but at the same time I was amazed at how much I had forgotten. I have to assume some of the games in the early 80's were played during times I was unable to watch because I am completely blank on some while others, such as the 1985 NC State game, I remember fairly well.

I have a spreadheet for this as well. A couple of minor things to point out on the graphic above:
1995 Penn score was 91-85, we won in OT.
1987 NC A&T score is correct but, in keeping consistent with how all the other score are listed, it should read 88-71 instead of 71-88.

This is our 22 trip to the tournament and our overall record is 23-21.
This is our 8th time to make the Sweet 16. In '76 there were 32 teams, so 1 win put you in the Sweet 16. The expansion to 64 teams was 1985.

Bama couldn't hit the ocean in the 1992 game vs North Carolina. I don't know why I torture myself but just to spread the misery, here is the box score: North Carolina vs. Alabama Box Score, March 21, 1992 | College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com (sports-reference.com)

I don't think this year's team has any player as talented as Robinson, Sprewell, or Horry but has depth and unity.
I always thought the 1991-92 team was lacking chemistry. Plus, we had no inside game to speak of. Cedric Moore was supposed to have been the next in line for dominating centers but he never panned out. Caffey turned out to be a very good player later on.

Actually we did not go to the tourney after the 1987-88 season. That was supposed to have been Derrick McKey's senior season but he was declared ineligible for having dealings with an agent.

Good thing that never happened with the football team....

I believe the state of Alabama passed a law making it illegal for an agent to initiate contact with a player who still had eligibility remaining after the Antonio Langham incident. That situation along with Derrick McKey cost us 2 outstanding players (Langham did play for part of the 1993 season) in 2 sports and several games that we could have won had we had those guys. You will remember the details MUCH better than I can. :)

Yeah, Horry played inside a lot on defense and led the SEC in blocks at least one year (maybe 1992) though he was not a true center. Those three players (Robinson, Sprewell, and Horry) under Oats with a buy-in to his system would be interesting. Same with Watford at LSU; he would fit nicely if he could buy-in. (I'm kinda drifting here...)

What's funny is I'm not a b-ball fan, but I'd sorta "forgotten" (since I never paid much attention) the details with McKey. I obviously recall him as a player, but I was in college and not a b-ball fan. I knew it was big, though.

Looking at the UNC box score, we had practically no depth to speak of. That was my senior year at UA and I sorta remember a drop off in the basketball team that year and I do remember us needing some interior help but I had forgotten how bad it was. We still were a pretty good team in spite of that.

I agree that those guys would have done very well in CNO's system.

Didn't Caffey play for the Bulls later on?
