Bracketmatrix probably has a better bead on Houston, and it has them as a 3ish seed right now, which on its face makes perfect sense.

Houston *finally* got a decent win yesterday at least, beating KU. Up until then they’d just stacked quality losses and beat the everloving crap out of teams they were expected to.

I said it earlier in the season but UH is one of those teams that the metrics love because of how hyper efficient they are against lesser opponents. Seriously, they don’t just beat them. They obliterate them. I mean I know Utah is Utah but holding a Big 12 team to 36 was pretty mind blowing.

So they have a very high floor. Their problem, IMO, is that they also have a relatively low ceiling.

Auburn is a great example from last year. Highly rated in the advanced metrics entering the tournament, but at the end of the regular season we were 1-7 against Q1. We did end up winning 2 more in the SEC tournament but it was hardly a battle tested Auburn team and it all came to a head against Yale.

Are we flying under the radar compared to other top 5 teams? Absolutely.

Maybe it's because the expectation for Alabama basketball has changed? I'd like to think so. They just expect to see us hovering around the top of the rankings and won't acknowledge it much until tourney time.

I'm fine with it, we've still got plenty of things we need to work on and would love the national media to stay out of it.

I honestly dont thinks the media cares whether we are 3 or 15. We are still not a brand that resonates in basketball.

Hype only matters in football. Basketball is all about getting in and playing well. The less they pump our heads full, the better off we are come tourney time. Our players aren't lacking in confidence and Oats is making sure they buy in, ie Sears being benched. I like where we currently are in relation to national attention and ranking. The SEC has shown it is head's and shoulder's the premier conference this year. Win the SEC and you can almost guarantee you are the overall #1 come dance time.
