I watched Mbakwe play QB his senior year of high school, and I was more impressed with him at QB than I have ever been with Milroe at QB.
I don't typically like subbing a starting QB out for a specialist who is known to be a good runner.

But Mbakwe may be a modern day version of the Deuce. When we subbed him at QB magic tended to happen.

Might could give the OC/CDK some interesting options.

You'd lock the players into a contract with a specific school's collective to a salary/duration. That is like being signed by an NFL team. Then you can make however much you want extra for NIL through sponsors. This would mean dropping the charade that the collectives are actually just NIL only.
ONLY works if you fix the transfer portal. And that may be a larger legal issue than a simple rule change.

Have we signed anyone from the portal yet?

Seems like we've only lost. Is there a place to track

It doesn't seem like Debore was ready for portal season
Kelby kollins. We've also added a punter and long snapper.

We've had several visits happen and several scheduled to happen. Keep checking this thread we will post them here, there will be more.

DeBoer amd staff more than ready for portal. They are being selective to upgrade
as we lose players. We don't need to sign another teams backup who will never
play just to fill a slot.

The last line seems like an overreaction based on the initial question you asked.

The answer is yes, and I expect he's far more ready for it than you appear to presume.

Just curious, so I looked…and every post you’ve made in your short time around here is very negative. I’m not saying anything…but I’m also not not saying anything 🤔

We may bring in a few guys - especially OL and DL - who would be serviceable backups just to provide depth in those areas. I think that was a concern for the staff this year.

It is not that easy in the NIL era. If you bring backup and pay him more $$ than a starter then you will have a locker room problem.
And price tags are probably higher at the beginning of the portal than what they will be in a few weeks. Thus, currently, you need to look for semi-starters in the portal and then look for cheaper backups later on.

Maybe not more $$ than a starter but more than they are currently making?

Deboers best recruiting work historicly is portal season. We were ready we just aren't saying the biggest number which delays the process a bit. Not to mention a visit is a 2 way interview. And not everyone is gonna be a fit just like in recruiting. And that may not always be about money.

Also there are 12 teams loaded with dudes who have been hiding out to make a portal exit. May be best to wait for some of those to declare before taking a bunch of commits.

And you also have to consider roster size. Ole miss is building its 2025 team completely with the portal. They have to be aggressive. Auburn is doing the same. We reallyjust needs a few experienced guys and we will be fine.

Also....mbakwe may technically count as a portal wr and Mya have shifted our portal needs from wr to db. That we really don't know....yet

Probably not a coincidence that in the midst of all these visits Byrne sends out an email to encourage subscribing to Yea Alabama. Recruiting the portal is not just the 2 way fit on the field, but much like free agency a balance of playing fit, playing opportunities and financial opportunities. Welcome to the NIL era!

Greg Byrne soliciting for mo' money today:
"Alabama fans, Over the past few years, there have been drastic changes in college athletics. We have been careful during this transitional period to protect our position at the top of college athletics while being mindful to listen, engage and learn from our generous supporters, proud alumni and unrivaled fans to make sure that we protect our great traditions here at Alabama. But there’s a time for talk and a time for action. Now is a time for action. Although we have been competitive from an NIL standpoint, our competition has us in their sights and are actively trying to surge ahead with NIL. You have heard examples of other teams using promises of million-dollar paydays to lure away our players or convince them not to come to Alabama. It is time for the Bama Nation to fight back. Under the new model of college athletics, which is the result of an antitrust lawsuit against the NCAA, a university can succeed if their fans purchase authentic NIL from student-athletes. The good news is when

isn’t about the now; it’s about the future. It’s about roster retention for future seasons – keeping our legends in Crimson. It’s about attracting and developing the best recruits in the country to represent the script A. You being a part of the team has never been more important. At Alabama, we’ve not measured ourselves against our competition. We are the standard, and that measurement is against the mirror and against a rich and proud history, but it’s impossible to ignore what is taking place in college athletics. Hungry fan bases are acting decisively to give their respective programs competitive advantages. We must respond. We are Alabama. Join
