Bama Players Transferring (catch all thread)

In reference to the Vandy QB…NIL wasn’t”legal” when he was in JuCo…how can he be limited to something that didn’t exist? …and you can’t say it took away his time now when it is legal because he wasn’t waiting a couple years to play hoping NIL became a thing…
Am I misunderstanding the whole thing?

That's my thought also. When Pavia was in JC, there was no NIL. And I would venture to say he also was not getting NIL money at New Mexico State. His first taste of NIL was at Vanderbilt, but according to the rules that have been in place for forty forevers, his eligibility is up. He doesn't like that, and can't get a real job, so he has to try and stay on the NIL payroll.

This judge sees it as the two (the University and the NCAA) colluding by limiting eligibility which greatly affects the player’s marketability. Basically saying that eligibility years are arbitrary.
But you bring up a good point. As it relates to student athletes, are universities and voluntary organizations like the NCAA subject to the same antitrust laws as other businesses?

The whole athletic eligibility thing I think was originally set up along the lines of the normal academic schedule. You know, back when they were called student-athletes. Originally, if you stayed on track, you could probably get your degree in four years - five years tops. The actual students are trying to get it done as they are paying the university for their education. Now Pavia wants to turn this thing into a cash cow because he can't do anything else. I just shake my head and hope that someday, someone can restore some sort or order to college football.

So at this point do we expect anyone else to hit the portal? I might assume that the staff could suggest some players hit the portal IF they have targets at other schools currently on a CFP team. I guess it would also be hard to transfer TO a CFP team because their team is still playing and roster management might not be on those staff's highest priority just yet.

I think we were at 82 scholarshipped players last season according to 247, I would think with the new rules, the smaller than normal recruiting class and transfers/graduations/NFL we have room for quite a few more players. But I may be wrong

Portal closes on Saturday so maybe not?
