It pleased me to see that we came out after half time with purpose and a plan. In our first game we were able to fight through adversity and blast our opponent in the second half. This is what I love to see us do. It doesn't matter how you start, it is how you finish, and we finished pretty strong.
Do you think with the added depth and renewed attitude we can come to expect this from our team? -cbm

Returning to a second half team

Not to be disagreeable but i'd like to see a complete game with us being strong in both halves. The tendency for slow starts that we showed last year got us in trouble in some situations and limited our game plan. I'm hoping that tendency does not continue. Starting fast and getting a lead keeps all plays as an option. I supposed if I can only have one good half of football I'd rather it be in the second.

That was one positive I gathered out of yesterday's performance. However, I agree with pcola that Bama has got to start being a complete game team, and not just halves.

I remember when we had a streak of

scoring on the first drive of the game under Stallings. it was something like 2-2.5 years straight that we scored on the first drive. force the other team to play from behind long enough and they will make a mistake that will seal the game.

The problem with being a second half team is that the good teams will bury you in the first half and make it next to impossible to come back in the second. We got burnt on a lot of games like that last year. We started out slow in the first half and just didn't have enough juice in the second to make up for it.

Even the good teams are going to have their games where they are off in the first half and have to make up for it in the second. But they don't make a common occurrence out of it like we tend to do. We've got to get where we're putting together complete games rather than half games. That is the only way we'll get back to winning titles.

I did like the fact that they obviously made adjustments at halftime (something they seemed unable to do the last couple of years) and came out firing on ally cylinders (well, much better anyways).

While I do agree that we need to be a "both-halves" team, I just keep telling myself, "it was only the first game" and "they needed to get in a real-game rhythm"...I really think a lot of it was probably just it being the first game.

I'll reserve judgment until next week I guess, when I see how the first half against Southern Miss. goes, but I did like what they did in the second half.
