Bama should move up to #1 in both polls.

The only reason Bama was not preseason tops is due to the loss of players and many not knowing the new one's. They should know Yeldon, Milner and the o-line a little better now and the crushing of media favorite Michigan should wake up the ones that put Bama #2

I feel pretty confident that Bama will pass USC and their 49-10 win over Hawaii. LSU is probably better than USC too but didn't have the big game to take #2 outright in both polls.

Any thoughts?

Tourist, I know that polls are polls, but it still has relevancy and is worthy of discussion.

I dont know. If you flip the script and we would have been number 1, and beaten somebody 49-10, and gotten dropped from #1 there would be an outcry. If somebody honestly believed USC was number 1 before the season started, they will probably still vote them #1. Same goes for LSU. The guy that voted Michigan number one will obviously cast his vote elsewhere. It may swap because the vote was so close, so one or two votes can make a difference. But if it comes out and we are still #2, I have no problem with it. Cliche, I know, but if we keep winning it won't matter where the vote lands.

I wouldn't mind us staying #2 but beating a Hawaii 49-10 and beating a #8 ranked Michigan 41-14 is like night and day (even if Michigan might be a little over-rated, they are no Hawaii)....but eh...who knows :) RTR

Like others, I've never been in favor of pre-season polls, or even early season polls. I'd rather wait until we've played a few conference games to see which teams are for real, and which are just smiling because they won an OOC season opener against Cupcake U.
Ask me again in October.

My sister and I were speaking about this after the game. I didn't feel slighted when USC was ranked #1, because how could we defend being #1 at the time. Like CapStoneTider said, we were unproven....but I think on a VERY national stage, and only a handful of other games going on at the time, a TON of people/coaches/media got to see the game. And more than likely tuned out at halftime. We didn't have the margin of victory most of the other top 5 teams had.....but then again we were playing the #8 team in the country!!! And it wasn't a nail biter....It was more like the Chik-Fil-A opening game against Georgia a couple years ago when we just thumped the #3 or #4 Georgia (i can't remember their rank), and it was over at halftime. The second half was moot.

So apples to apples.....We were definately the MOST impressive and dominant team yesterday and I think it just solidified and informed the rest of the country what we already knew.

I agree, but the only time being #1 matters to me is in January.

The poll is = to who is the best team at the moment. So discussing the polls is comparing your opinions against the consensus opinion. That is why I am against a large playoff, I enjoy the significance of each week. But the polls do have a bad reputation.

No matter where we are ranked we still have to take care of business, so right now it wouldn't bother me if we were ranked #1, 2, or 3. I whole heartedly agree that we deserve to be #1, however at this stage of the season I don't really care where we are so long as we are in position to make a move at the end.

Oh i completely agree. And I think we looked like the number 1 team in the country last nite. I'm just saying that anybody who justified putting USC number 1 didnt really get a reason from them not to keep them #1. Yeah they played a pansy, but thats what they had scheduled. We'll see how good they are down the line. I'm not sure they have enough defense to play Oregon. I also wouldnt be surprised if Syracuse gives them more of a game than they bargain for next weekend. Traveling across the country to play in the Carrier Dome, while it isnt playing Michigan in Dallas, is a little more of a test than playing the fighting Chow's in the Coliseum.

IMO, no chance we move to #1 in the AP, too much SoCal to drop them out of first after 49-10. I think we move up to first in the coaches since our performance obviously warrants the top spot and the coaches poll generally makes sense.

I'll bet you the amount of money that Mayweather Jr. now has in his account? Which is $0,000,000

Bama takes the top spot and keeps it. It does get you more press :) A team on probation that has proven nothing should not be ahead of Bama.

Macht nicht! It's only one game and I only care about Alabama being #1 or #2 after the Iron Bowl. Doesn't matter which. We just need to get the invitation to the BCS NC game and Coach Saban will take it from there.

I agree with you that USC shouldn't be #1, but especially living in CA, Matt Barkley & Co. are the next coming of the good Lord himself and anyone who disagrees is simply insane. There's a reason the AP poll no longer has any value, and that's because the voters actually start to believe the hype they created and are too stubborn to back down.

You and the other 50%, we understand. But polls are tied to discussing who you believe is the best team at a certain point in the season, it's just as relevant as talking about a players performance, unless you want to say you don't care if he plays well as long as he does in the Iron Bowl! :)
