So I think we are saying the same thing, from different perspectives. The skill guys who were 'bad attitude' were only that way b/c they lost confidence the staff, so of course the staff didn't push hard to get them back.
It's not lost confidence in the staff. They did not buy-in to the way the new staff were doing things which caused cancerous bad attitudes. Very happy with the departures and really like the way the new roster is looking and the buy-in they have which is evidenced by no one leaving in the spring portal window.

Saban had to weed out the bad attitudes when he took over the program and I think most new staffs do the exact same thing.

no, they lost confidence in the staff. They'd expressed concerns to the staff about the offense, and how a certain player was not executing correctly and how that was keeping the offense from being effective. Staff told them that if they had issues with that player, to go talk to him about. Players felt like that was blowing off their concerns.

You speak in such certainty about exactly what happened and I find that fascinating.

It’s been corroborated by at least one staff member here I know.

I’ve seen a few other people with close ties say the same.

I find it interesting that respected posters get continually doubted just because the account isn’t of the most palatable nature.

Toxic stuff has been going on for multiple seasons behinds the scenes and we aren’t impervious to it just because it’s Alabama.

But I get it… kill the messengers and whatnot.

Coach DeBoer laughed at the idea that Milroe returning would have led to a mass exodus of Alabama’s wide receivers entering the transfer portal. He said he read the same rumor, supposedly "coming out of Alabama".

What else would he say? Maybe it’s real, maybe it’s not, but no way is he going to throw Milroe under the bus.

If you don’t think there was frustration in that room you obviously didn’t see Ryan Williams’ face when he was wide open and Milroe sailed the ball over his head. Even the commentators made mention of it. Mass exodus level of frustration, I don’t know, but they weren’t happy for sure.

The article I saw had a somewhat different take on it:

**********
Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer was asked about the report concerning Milroe. While the head coach did not totally refute the statements made, he does believe they are a bit overblown.

“I’ve heard that same quote, and I think the word all is used,” DeBoer said. “So whenever absolutes are used like that, I kind of question it right there. Like the words never and always and all, I think that’s a little far-fetched. I don’t think we would have lost all of our receivers for anything.”

**********

That's classic deflection: he really only refuted using the word "all".

He's right in that absolutes are very rarely true, but he didn't deny the premise that Nilroe returning might have caused some/many/significant transfers. By taking the approach he did, he kinda conceded there could have been a challenge there.

On the positive side, CKD also talked about Nilroe working hard to unite people, etc before going into coach speak about where he can improve and such.

lol, OF COURSE he said that...

He also kept Milroe in the game way too long when he was the sole reason we were losing.

Good Lord. Can we please stop turning every single thread on the football board into a discussion (if we can call it that) about Jalen Milroe? The guy is a pro now. Let it go.

This thread is about potential transfer "targets". The window for people to jump ship has closed, and now the focus needs to shift to plugging any necessary holes and getting ready for summer workouts.

The first step is admitting we have a problem....

Might need another hat thread at this point, things will be quiet again.

It has nothing to do with palatable nature. I know there are respected posters on here but it is my nature not to trust things that have not been reported by the actual people involved and sometimes not even then with fake news. I will not blindly trust statements that I don't agree with or if they don't have evidence to back up their statement. I think it is the wise thing to do for all of us.

Coach DeBoer's job is to keep stability in the program and chaos out of it. Even if it means not disclosing (even to the point of denying) things to the public that are going on with the team dynamic aka "lockerroom issues". No way he answers every single question from the media "honestly". No coach does that...

Dig it, but this is talking season for the next 4 months and that player has been a lightning rod on every Bama board for the past 2+ years. Only way to get the topic in the rear view is to kick the season off with a new QB. Long way to go friend.

Since it now appears that our TE depth issue has been shored up, does anyone have a sense of where we might be target-wise for help at DT? Are there any difference-makers in the portal that might be interested, or would it be another depth play?

My thought is we are through in the portal. We are going to be OK at DT and add at this point would be for depth.

They haven’t brought any RT’s in for a visit either so it appears we are going with Formby….hopefully he’s gotten a lot better

SEC starter to NFL level DTs and OTs seem to be pretty rare in the portal, teams with those guys are going to keep them in the fold.

I think we have guys there for depth purposes, and while I'd love to have a great pick up, I doubt there are many options out there.
