This is why Clemson is beatable. Kelly Bryant isn't that good.
Yea for sure. But rarely has a QB beat us without needing to hit a few big plays in the passing game. IF we have our offense figured out with either different play calling or Tua having a package or whatever, then I really like our chances. If Clemson had Watson I wouldn't even want to watch the game, but with Bryant I like our chances. As a passer - but as a runner, he is very good. Remember the trouble that MSU gave you because of their QB's legs. You are going to get the same stuff from Bryant.

I think you're being a little selective. The QB was injured for the Syracuse game, and the Miami game was a blowout from the jump -- they could afford to go conservative, Miami couldn't score at all.Remember when Alabama was panned for its performance against Mississippi State, a Top 25 team on the road? We gained 444 yards in that game, despite having the ball just a third of the game.
Look at Clemson's offensive performances against these three opponents:
Syracuse - 317 yards
NC State - 415 yards
Miami - 331 yards
Clemson has gotten a pass for being anemic on offense in these games, because people are focusing on the Miami blowout. The truth is they have struggled a lot and not been as consistently productive as we have.

I mean, it's a completely legitimate point. You may not like it but if he stays healthy they almost certainly win the game.I am so sick of hearing about the QB going down against Syracuse. It really has become their "If only Colt hadn't gotten hurt".
IMO, this was for 2 main reasons - they are a running team this year, heavily dependent on Bryant as a runner, and their passing game is very different that last year's in that they do not throw deep. They dink and dunk down the field. So, while their QBs threw well, they could not run the ball, so their scoring was limited enough to produce a loss.Kelly Bryant was 12/17 for 116 yards with a QBR of 45.7 when he departed. Cooper came in and went 10/14 for 88 yards with a QBR of 37.1. Both guys were ineffective running the ball. Neither one of them threw a TD or an interception.
This perception that Clemson fell apart when Cooper came in is just not accurate. Did Clemson take a slight step back? Probably. But the offense didn't fall apart under Cooper. And it was... SYRACUSE. This team ended up 116th out of 130 in yards allowed. It's just not a good excuse.
He was nursing an ankle injury coming into the game and they lost by 3 when he went out... I think they definitely come back and win if he stays in.Kelly Bryant was 12/17 for 116 yards with a QBR of 45.7 when he departed. Cooper came in and went 10/14 for 88 yards with a QBR of 37.1. I'd argue that we could leave Hurts on the bench the entire game against a team like Syracuse and still win by 3 TDs.I mean, it's a completely legitimate point. You may not like it but if he stays healthy they almost certainly win the game.
I'm sure if Alabama lost their starting QB in their only loss NOBODY on the board would bring it up as an excuse.
I know this conversation has wandered away a bit, but...
watching some film, and I think how we should attack Clemson (with Hurts) is the 1st drive of the 2nd half against State. Jacobs and Harris in the backfield- jet sweeps, power sweeps, misdirection, RBs in the flat, mix Ridley in with jets and screens.
Yes, that drive stalled, but it did a lot to negate the front 4 early in the drive.

The point is, if you're going to fold against weak competition when one player goes down - even the QB - then your team isn't what you'd hope for...

Agreed - love Fosters ability once he has the ball in his hands, but he is not a clutch receiver. So wish you guys still had Stewart on this team. There is a reason why we haven't really run that... that I expect to see against Clemson. Instead of Ridley on jet, I would like to see Foster doing that. Boy got that speed. Reason I said that is because if any chance we fake jet sweep or screen pass.. I want Ridley down the field or Ruggs to catch the ball instead of Foster.
