This makes a lot of sense, even with Deondre Haynes and Craig Sword both being 4 star guards from Alabama next year. We have a lot of depth at the guard spots and JaMychal Green will be the only senior next year. We'll probably fill his spot with another big man.

I know that at this moment Jaylen Beckham, Kareem Canty, and Craig Sword all hold offers from Alabama. They are all guards in the 2012 class. If Durant plays this year, he will be a Sr. next year.

You're right. I forgot about Durant. He has already played this season.

That was my line of thinking when I said "if Durant plays this season." I meant if he plays again. I also like the thought that Moussa Gueye (sp?) could possibly come in as a soph with 3 years to play. We really need Carter and Engstrom to make some real improvement from now until the start of next season. All in all, I've very excited about the direction of the program. I will be making the 3 hour trip to the LSU game. Hoping to catch Arkansas and Ole Miss if my work schedule permits.

Not to be argumentative but why? He came in as a JC so he has had time to mature his game. If he is having trouble getting on the floor this year why try to get him another year? At best his ceiling appears to be a contributing bench player. Why not allow that scholarship to go to a FR who might turn out to be bigger contributor?

I don't have any inside info, so I'm just speculating. I would hope we brought this kid in because he has some talent and CAG thought he could help us. If he is injured, he doesn't really get an opportunity to help and a medical redshirt (if there really is such an animal) would still give him 2 years to contribute. On the other hand, if we've seen the best he's got it would mean we probably missed on our evaluation of him. In that case, I'd agree with you that there isn't really any point in pursuing an option that ties up the scholly on into the future.

I think the reason DeOndre Haynes doesn't have an offer is because Coach Grant has Craig Sword rated higher, not because of a promise to Sina. Here is the funny thing about recruiting, Craig Sword is more of a combo guard. He will play some at the 1 and some at the 2. If we sign him, we technically haven't signed a PG in the 2012 class.
