I've known Mr. Bayou passively for NINE YEARS; I even once met him at Taco Bell (which I always thought was the Mexican phone version of AT/T) in Lake Chawles.

In 2000, he and I posted on ncaaboards. When the Means story broke, he made an eerily prophetic prediction: he noted that this was going to harm Alabama for years but that the good thing was that the Memphis scandal was going to get us sanctions early rather than late. That was going to enable us to put it past us and get on with winning titles.

It took longer perhaps than some of us thought, but we have won the SEC, kept that streak alive, and have one more win.

Thanks for keeping my head up in the dark days, Bayou.

Sincerely,

HW89

I've got a good friend who unfortunately is a huge LSU fan. Bleeds for the Tigers, etc...
The day we hired CNS he called me and said, "Within three years, he'll have you in the National Championshp game." We were so far away from that at the time, I laughed -- he had more faith than I did!

I remember calling my (now ex) brother-in-law, who's a lifelong LSU fan within seconds of the Saban hiring.

He was dead silent.

I said, "His first recruiting class is going to win it all."

He stayed silent.

I remember meeting you, your wife and son. I had been doing yard work all day and must have looked like a hobo.

Yep. We had his party on SECCG day - which caused no small stress between me and the wifey. (It was his 11th party, but he's not 11 until 12/15).

I was so confident in us this year, I took off 12/5 back in September - just to be able to see the game.

This has just been one of those years where it 'felt' right - to me at least.

Anyway, you promised we'd be back - and we are.

(Btw - I do recall both of us laughing at LSU's delusions of how great Saban was going to be back in the fall of 2001; I guess we can't be right about everything).

I'm glad he's our coach.

And glad you've helped me to keep the faith.

That became nervous laughter. :)
