Folks - the last proof the Pro Football HOF is a sick joke just occurred today.

Bill Belichick will have to wait at least another year before getting inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The former New England Patriots head coach won't be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2026, denying him entry on his first ballot, ESPN reported. Belichick, who was named a finalist for induction as part of the Class of 2026, needed at least 40 of the 50 votes to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. It's unclear how many votes he received.

Belichick, 73, is one of the most decorated coaches in NFL history. His six Super Bowl titles as a head coach are the most ever, while he has the second-most wins ever for an NFL head coach (333, regular season and postseason combined).

You have a lot of sports journalist that vote that have their own agenda. They want everyone one to bow down kiss the ring, kiss their buttocks, and tell them what geniuses they are.

I hate the Patriots.
I loathe Belichick.

But you cannot deny the on the field record. And as a reminder, Bill won two Super Bowls as a DC before Tom Brady graduated from high school.
Same with me. Hate them both, but I don't recognize greatness.

Maybe they were afraid his young girlfriend would be his presenter?

I don't know much other than the public record, so let me opine anyway;) He obviously could coach.

Gene Stallings thought he should have been kicked out of the league for rules violations (illegal videotaping of opponents' walk-throughs). I have no idea if they had a history but I doubt it.

They say it’s because of Spygate, but if you throw out the Spygate year and deflategate year he still won 4 Super Bowls as a HC and 2 as a DC. That alone would tie him with the most ever. His 6 rings blows that away. He won an NFL record 11 straight division titles. Coached the first NFL team to win 18 games. Ludicrous to think he wasn’t a first ballot HOFer.

Bill Polian compaigned against Bill Belichick.

I know that rumor is out there but....did he really?

I mean, he might have, it's possible.

My suspicion is that this is revenge from petty sportswriters who didn't like him not answering their questions. (And for the record, I don't give much credence to any of the "this is because he's a Trump guy", either).

Not to take sides against Beebes, but Jimmy Johnson (whom I cannot stand) addressed this on his Twitter yesterday, saying that EVERY COACH does what Belichick did, the players just don't know about it. Another source (honestly don't recall the name as I was scrolling) pointed out the same thing EXCEPT said Belichick's sin was the LOCATION of the recording, not the fact of it.

Let me address this before someone says it: "Belichick never won anything without Brady." True.

Landry never won anything without Staubach, either.
Noll never won anything without Bradshaw.
Shula never won anything without Griese.
Flores never won anything without Plunkett.
Coughlin never won anything without Eli.
Shanahan never won anything without Elway.
Lombardi never won anything without Bart Starr.
Walsh never won anything without Montana.
Reid never won anything without Mahomes.

Be consistent, folks.

This is the same crap for the MLB hall of fame.

It is voted on by people that have never played the sport. They are sports writers. Its an absolute joke.

Votes are done by how they like someone or how they got treated by someone or how the majority is going to vote so they fit in.

IT IS ALL A FARCE.

Side note: Shedeur Sanders made the Pro Bowl. ABSOLUTE JOKE

I do not know but Polian did have to put out a statement to deny the rumor.

20 years of using the media like his own personal punching bag, of course Bill made enemies.

I agree on Trump thing. Plenty of folks in the HOF that are Trump guys.

Polian put out a tweet that BB should be in the HoF, but he also said he is 95% certain he voted for BB. 95% certain how you voted just a few weeks ago tells me he didn’t vote for him.
Does this mean TOM Brady isn’t a first ballot HoFer because he was on the team through spygate and the supposed ringleader of Deflategate.

If that is true than their little golden boy Brady doesn't get in either. He deflated footballs for an advantage. Anyone think that will happen?

Oh, I don't mind that, but we're talking about people who want to discredit an accomplishment because they don't like the guy.

If Bill Belichick had flamed out in New England as he did in Cleveland (more on this in a moment), we would all look back now and say, "Yeah, he was a great DC, he was just never meant to be a head coach," things we say with guys like Dan Henning, Mike Martz, and any one of 100 or more different coordinators. He would have been blamed (rightly so) for not achieving.

But this guy DID achieve - and all along the way there's the whole "how can I discredit him." The list of excuses leveled against the Patriots are along the same lines of the excuses leveled by losers to Nick Saban in college football or against the 1970s Steelers.

- he won nothing without Brady
- he was in an easy division that made making the playoffs easier
- Spygate
-Deflategate
- they were lucky (Tuck Rule, Seattle throwing away the game, Billy Cundiff's misses, blah blah)

But here are some facts:
- they won THREE AFC Championship games ON THE ROAD and beat 2 HOFers (Roethlisberger, Mahomes)
- in AFC title games not involving the Belichick Pats, the home team is 25-12 (.675). New England AS A ROAD TEAM in the AFC Championship is 3-2
- Belichick turned a broken down Browns team into a playoff team (11-5) in 3 years and then watched his team collapse when the owner announced they were moving to Baltimore and then he got canned
- Belichick won the 2001 AFC Championship with DREW BLEDSOE replacing an injured Tom Brady with the Pats ahead 7-0 on a punt return (e.g. no TDs from Brady)
- in 2008, Brady went down with a torn ACL 7:03 into the season and the Pats went 11-5 and had a playoff record (same as Miami and Baltimore) but missed due to the rules
- in 2016 when Brady was suspended for Deflategate, the Pats went 3-1 while he was out and were the #1 seed
- from the time Brady became the starter until he left the Pats pre-Covid, Belichick's teams were 14-6 without Brady as a starter, an average of 11-5 in a 16-game season. (Given Brady missed nearly all of the 2001 AFC title game and the opener in 2008, I'm counting both of those)

No, he didn't win a SUPER BOWL without Brady, but until the team drove off the cliff in 2023, they were still playoff competitive. In 2020, they had the same record (7-9) as a playoff team (WFT) and also in 2022 (8-9 Tampa). In fact, had they beaten Miami in the opener in 2022, they'd have made the playoffs.

YES, the Patriots were lucky with the Tuck Rule and Pete Carroll's ill-advised pass at the goal line.

They were also unlucky with catches by David Tyree and Kearse.

Let me address a couple of other issues on this HOF vote:

1) Eli Manning

This guy has got to be the most unqualified "oh, he's getting snubbed" candidate of the modern era. Eli Manning has no business in the Hall of Fame without buying a ticket or visiting with his brother.

Here's the challenge:
Give an argument in favor of Eli without mentioning the words "two Super Bowls."

You can't do it, it isn't possible, and that's all you need to know.

"Well, he's 11th in passing yardage."
But Matt Ryan is 9th......is Matt Ryan a Hall of Famer???

Ryan was 3-2 against Eli in the regular season, 3-3 overall.
Eli played two games more, but Ryan (of the two) has the BETTER RECORD AS A STARTER (124-109 vs 117-117). Ryan has 5K more passing yards, is a full five points better in completion percentage, made the same number of Pro Bowls and won an MVP (which Eli was never even close).

So what separates Eli and Matt Ryan, whose stats are MUCH better?

"Oh, Eli won 2 Super Bowls!" (You can't use that argument, that's a team argument. Lemme guess......Ryan is to blame for his team's DEFENSE blowing a 28-3 Super Bowl lead, right?)

2) Roger Craig

Of all the ones that puzzle me, this one tops the list. I think Jim Marshall and Everson Walls both belong as well as Kenny Anderson (who may make it this year)......but how is Roger Craig not in the Hall of Fame nearly 25 years ago?

"Well, it was a Bill Walsh system and that team's offense was largely Montana and Rice!"

Really?
Craig scored 3 TDs in Super Bowl XIX while Rice was still in Itta Bena, MS.
And does that mean Montana shouldn't be in the Hall as well?

In Rice's rookie year, Craig became the first guy in NFL history to have 1,000 yards RUSHING and RECEIVING in the same season. WITH JERRY RICE ON HIS TEAM!!!! Granted, Rice didn't start until late in the season but so what? He didn't start because Craig could catch the ball and run with it when he did.

Of course, if you look at his numbers now they don't look that great because the game has changed, but in 1988 when Rice and Montana stole the show in the Super Bowl, CRAIG was the NFL MVP, with 2,036 yards from scrimmage.

You know why his numbers aren't dazzling?
Because he could RUN AND CATCH.

In 1984, when Craig scored 3 TDs in the Super Bowl, he was the FULLBACK, primarily a blocking back for Wendell Tyler (who was a pretty decent back himself but getting old).

It's almost like.....

Craig doesn't go because he fumbled away a three-peat in the 1990 NFC title game.
Marshall doesn't go because he ran the wrong way that time.
Walls doesn't go because Dwight Clark beat him on swing right option to make "the Catch".

But....ELI gets to go because David Tyree caught that pass.....
