I am getting my father and uncle Alabama mini helmets for christmas (i'm getting one too, ha ha) than I am planning on taking them to the senior bowl autograph session in January for us to get them signed. Upon researching them on the internet i have found Riddell and Schutt helmets. Which helmet is of better quality? Thanks for the help!

Re: Best mini helmet brand?

I have several of the Schutt brand signed by players and they look to be of good quality. I don't own any of the Riddell so can't compare.

The helmet fits a chihuahua. ;)

Re: Best mini helmet brand?

I'll see what I can do about the picture :)

Something I have noticed is pricing of signed mini helmets. I recently got a #25 Rolando McClain, #13 George Teague, #73 John Hannah and #38 Glenn Coffee all for $40 or less plus shipping. I buy more than one at a time if possible to save on shipping from ebay sellers.

#8 Julio Jones and Nick Saban signed helmets go for over $50 and I see some that are getting close to $100, Julio ain't worth that yet. Other high sellers are Kenny Stabler and Joe Namath which both are usually over the $100 mark.

Re: Best mini helmet brand?

Personally, I like the Schutt mini helmets the best. I just like the appearance a little better.

I've got around 80 or 90 autographed mini helmets. I use the Schutt mini helmets for LB's and DE's to sign. The helmet and facemask on the Schutt minis are similar to a LB and DE's facemask.

I use the Riddell mini helmets for QB's, RB's and DB's. I generally have OL sign a Riddel mini helmet and put a replacement facemask on the mini that is identical to an OL's facemask.

Still, I like the Schutt mini helmets the best.

You've obviously put some serious cabbage into that collection.

How safe do you feel about buying them on ebay ? I am deathly afraid of fraud when buying autographed anything from eaby. But I guess who is going to know ?

Most of them I got autographed myself over the last 10 or 12 years. I've gotten players to sign them at Fan Day, golf tournamants, fund raisers, charity events, etc.

I buy most of my mini helmets on E-Bay, so I don't pay retail for them. I've also been able to get deals on mini helmets by buying them in bulk on E-Bay.

I've got about 20 autographed full size helmets. I've gotten these autographed by what I consider to be some of the all-time greats at Alabama, players like Namath, Stabler, Shaun Alexander, Ozzie Newsome, Cornelius Bennett, Chris Samuels, Andre Smith, Jay Barker, Musso, Jordan, David Palmer, Ryans etc. I've got each helmet individually signed with the players number on it. These are the helmets that aren't cheap.

Great Scott, you must have had to build on to your house to display those babies.

Riddell

IMO, the Riddell looks more like the helmets the players use. The Schutt has a pushed in, stubby face mask, while the Riddell has a more authentic face mask. I have the Riddell and like it better, but to each his own.:)
