Big Ten probably didn't have this in mind for their Friday Night Football

  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

Nope. And that would make me furious with Fox, were I the Big Ten. There is NO way that WWE draws more than college football (surely???).

I wouldn't be able to redo the contract fast enough. But then again, I've never had a high opinion of Fox as a college football entity.

Well playoff baseball takes priority in any event and Vince isn’t going to to compromise TV spots. So college football is pretty much in a weird position at the negotiating table.

This is why I'd be wary of the SEC negotiating Friday night games for more revenue in a few years. It is a bad time for a game for travellers so carriage of the game is even more important in my opinion.

The B1G got its check. They do not care. Fox paid a lot for that game and is now going to lose money.

I don't doubt either point. But to me, if I'm Jim Delaney, Fox is out of the picture the next go around. Of course, if I'm Jim Delaney, there is no way I'm adding Rutgers to the Big Ten so there's that.

No doubt but we're starting to see ADs feeling some ramifications for all these concessions made to the broadcasters. This is a bad deal for the fans. Eventually you pay the price for dumping on your customers.

Fox is paying a billion dollars for SmackDown (which draws around 3 million viewers), the only time they will get moved to FS1 will be during the World Series. You either make Ohio State mad or you make Vince McMahon mad, someone will be unhappy either way.

Or you make a million viewers hit "mute" when Gus Johnson blathers in on B1G football...

The fan is the consumer. We are told everywhere, everyday that "we" (the consumer) are all important and they (those who want our money) will do double backfilips for us. Psssst. listen up. We are lied to all the time. Hate to break the news, but inventory comes first and if you have to wait on next day delivery then too bad, but it is cheaper that way. Psssst, Mr Fan who pays the bills, you don't like 11 a.m. kickoffs? Too bad, but we love you (er … your money).

The consumer is #1 in one area: their wallets.

Any other naval gazing about the centrality of the costumer is marketing schlock.

Ohio State does not care. This game is on the Big Ten network, so every fan of OSU or NW that wants to see the game will be able to see the game.

The Ohio State brand/recruiting is not going to take a hit from a game like this being seen by fewer people on a Friday night. Honestly, when you choose to play on Friday night, you pick a game that was going to have fewer eyeballs anyway. Who, other than OSU/NW fans, were going to watch this game?

If you make a stupid decision you get your just rewards. Playing of Fridays is something on minor conferences do ... on blue or red fields.

Recruit: Coach, will your games be in prime time so my fam and friends can watch?

Saban: You get that a lot at Alabama, we're on TV every week usually at 2:30p or at night, occasionally we're on at 11a which we all hate

Day: At OSU, our big games have been pushed to what's being called Big Noon. Sometimes you'll play on Friday when your friends back home are at the high school game. Occasionally we get bumped for baseball and fake wrestling, but other than that, you're good
