I was told that Bill Oliver was working for the school in some capacity, is this true? Thanks for the help. Also will Joe Kines have any influence on the defense next year?

Oliver ran a 3-4 defense as does Saban! It would be interesting to see if those two exchange ideas back and forth. Certainly couldn't hurt!

I believe 2 years ago Brother Bill was hired as a consulatant, and helped on the game plan for UF.Yes,we destroyed the Gaytors at T Town. However,I don't recall him coming back since.FWIW,I really don't see CNS asking him for any pointers on the 3-4 though.

Agreed . CNS may not have any interest about what anyone else thinks .

Wow, Dude Hennessey has been around forever. My grandmother tutored for the team in the mid to late 60's. She could usually get us tickets in later years through Hennessey.

I know this is a little off topic but it is about Brother Bill. I heard a rumor years ago that Brother Bill threw out our defensive playbook and wrote a whole new one specially tailored for Miami's offense before the 1993 Sugar Bowl. Does anyone know if that is true or not?

I was at that game, and I know there were some of the craziest alignments I have ever seen. Miami was confused, then Teague took the ball away. GAME OVER !!!

That offense was designed for quick reads, and letting short passes turn into long gains; Miami was not a long ball threat.

Oliver didn't throw out the entire playbook, but he did design some packages to show a lot of press coverage to disrupt the quick reads. Once Torretta started second-guessing himself, it was all over.

He was a great defensive mind and it's a shame no one has taken advantage of this for quite a few years. But his visions of greatness of himself and his reputation may have caught up with him.

I really don't care about Oliver's ego. If he were still our defensive coach and could put together defenses like we saw in 1992, my visions of his greatness would be competitive with his own visions of greatness of himself. It doesn't matter to me how much a coach thinks of himself as long as he's winning with class and following the rules.

1992 was 15 years ago. There has to be a point in time when we get over Barn Oliver. My time to get over him came about 13 years ago when he joined Baby Bowden at Auburn.
