I think this guy is the next assistant to become a big time coach. I know Bama is after a experienced head coach but i wish this guy would get a look.

You may be right about him, but it's hard to tell for sure. He's not an experienced head coach with a proven successful track record as a head coach. He won't make the list, based on the criteria Mal gave.

Of all the assistant coaches mentioned I think this one makes the most sense. Good DC at some excellent programs. But probably won't consider ACs.

Well, he does have a perfect 1-0 record as the interim HC at Nebraska with a win over Michigan State in the Alamo Bowl.

He is the real deal. He interviewed for Mich State and Cinn so I know he wants to be a head coach. I also know LSU thinks he is the real deal and fear losing him. It is only a matter of time before someone lands this guy.

I've heard his name here lately, and am just curious as to where all he has been before LSU. Has he always been a defensive minded guy?? If so, who would he bring in on offense if hired??

He was the DC at Nebraska when they fired Solich, and he wanted the HC job. I think the Huskers would have been better off with him, but they wanted a big name "proven head coach" and went with Callahan and have been much worse than they were under Solich and Pelini. Sounds familiar huh?

I would be excited to at least give him a second look, interview and see his name appear on the possible replacements. MM will have to back down off the "proven head coach" before he will look at any assistants such as this one and/or Jimbo Fisher, etc.

If we hired a DC then it would be CJK. He is better than Pelini and he has already been at BAMA. People know and love him here. Now if we went after Fisher that would be different because he is offensive and might keep JK on board. Pelini is a good coach, but not the right choice for alabama.

I never cared much for his brand of defense when he was at OU. He seemed like he was more interested in fancy schemes and gameplans than he was in teaching fundamentals. Our tackling and cover skills were atrocious during his time in Norman.

Surely you don't think Pelini was "in charge" of the defense while at OU. He was third in line behind Stoops and Venables.

The better way to judge his abilities would be to look at what he did at Nebraska and is now doing at LSU.

Really? Ask Duane Akina Co-defensive coordinator at Texas who was in charge of their defense - him or Gene Chizik (sp?), and before that him or Greg Robinson. Sometimes that title is given for reasons other than overall responsibility.
