Re: Bob Stoops would be a grand slam.....

I doubt he is interested, but i agree, he would be a homerun.

Agree he would not be interested.... However, with our past NCAA infractions, do we really want someone from a program that is under scrutiny due to the Rhett Bomar issues?

mmm, pancakes!

Re: Bob Stoops would be a grand slam.....

I also find it very doubtful he would be interested in the job at Bama, but it would be incredible. I don't see why he would want to leave. He has done pretty well there and has built that program into something pretty darn good. He just came off a great year, especially without Rhett Bomar, and will be going to the Big 12 Championship. Bob Stoops would be great, but he is not a logical candidate.

RTR forever!

Re: Bob Stoops would be a grand slam.....

I don't think that he would be interested. He has made several statements about how happy he and his family are in Norman. He is part of the trinity; Bud, Barry & Bob.

His press conferences are funny....if someone from the press asks a stupid question Bob can unload on him and get little to no negative pub.

Also we would not want to get into a bidding war for Bob. If we offered 5M the Sooner nation would offer 6M. You've got to remember the oil rigs are pumping and cash is not a problem for the Sooners:)

I did hear Barry talking about the Bama job on his radio show last night. He compared Bama to OU in many ways. He even said that several coaches called him to find out the scoop on the job. He wouldn't go into details but did say the program was still a top job and we should land a better coach than UM. He has made the statement that probation is meant to hurt and it does....it takes time to recover.

Barry is great on his talk show, a lot of stories. One thing of interest; he always watches the Hogs when he has a chance. He even goes over to watch the games in Fayetteville.

Re: Bob Stoops would be a grand slam.....

He would be a grand slam...but I don't think he's even in the game. Why on earth would he leave what he has in OU to come here?

I agree, if we offered Stoops it would just turn into a bidding war that we would not win, although I don't agree that OU is more attractive or has more money at it's disposal than we do. One edge we would have on them is that the quality of life here is much better than in that landlocked, flat state that used to be strictly reserved for deporting the native americans out of the Southeast....

You OU guys are right, he is a legend in the making there. No way in heck is he coming to ttown.

LOL no wonder my gas is so high, coach needs a raise ....

Nice words..thanks

Is he friends with Nutt?

Probably my favorite candidate of the names thrown out so far. Can't say enough about what he's done, turning OU into perhaps new millenium's most consistant powerhouse.

Obviously though, there isn't a sense that he's too tangible for us...

Re: Bob Stoops would be a grand slam.....

Barry Switzer was born and raised in a little town called Crossett, Arkansas. It's a nice little place just north of the Louisiana line and they're right proud of him. I would guess he's always heen a Hogs fan.

Umm..considering that he played at Arkansas for Frank Broyles, I would say you are correct...;)

I'd like to suggest locking this thread. No point in wasting the server space. He's not interested in leaving (why would he?) and we're not interested in hiring him (NCAA).

If you oppose my suggestion, please name ONE HC who has won a Division 1A National Championship that left that program to go to another program.

Well you can't really call me an OU guy...born, raised in Bama, displaced in OKC. Have to be civil because my 2 boys are Sooner fans (Bama fans as well). The only time I've worn Sooner gear is when they hung 70+ on Fran. Then Stoops made me mad because he didn't hang a hundred on em. :biggrin2:

Is he friends with Nutt?

Not sure....haven't heard him say.

lol, i live in Norman, OK, and i can tell that this idea is nothing short of ludicrous. Stoops has a beautiful house in a great neighborhood, has all the money he could want, coaches a perrenial powerhouse, and is adored by fans and media here. Short of imploding the OU campus, Stoops isnt going to another D-1 program any time soon.

The Un-official Bob Stoops thread

1. Where is the official Bob Stoops thread?

2. NOT MIKE Stoops.

3. Do we not PREFER Bob Stoops OVER Steve Spurrier? I know I do.

4. I really like Steve Spurrier, and have for years. I checked his little biography out of the school library way back in 1970. That doesn't mean he fits at ALABAMA, though.

5. The Steve Spurrier rumor is beyond my minds ability to interpret what it is hearing. It is like when the Native Americans first looked out at the European ships and being unable to comprehend what they were looking at, simply couldn't see them.

6. The Steve Spurrier rumor is a joke, right? It's funny? :conf2:
