Has become an international laughingstock.

The photo, as E&P observed Wednesday night in the first story about the incident, shows Bush scribbling in pencil on a note that already holds the words: "I think I may need a bathroom break? Is this possible." Wilking is a veteran Washington photographer who has long covered Bush campaigns and the White House.

The headline at the BBC news site suggested that Bush had been "caught short" at the U.N. summit. From The Sun: "I fear a leak, Condi." The Irish Examiner headline? "To Pee or Not to Pee, That is the Question." Der Spiegel in Germany translated "a bathroom break" as "eine Toiletten-Pause."

Hey! The UN embezzeled billions of dollars from the Iraq Oil-For-Food program! Kofi Annan's son and another relative have been implicated and a major investigation is under way! The UN is beyond serious need for reform! Let's publish a Photoshop enhanced note of George Bush and run that on the front page for a few days!

Really, though, is it surprising or a problem for any attendee at a long meeting to suggest stopping for a short break?
Maybe the Europeans are making such hay out of this because they are full of something.
There are plenty of legitimate areas to criticize Pres. Bush's performance, but this is petty, in a quintessentially European way.

Ya gotta wonder how bush makes it to the bathroom when Condi's not around. Was he asking for her permission, or directions?

What a president.

Maybe she had the floor at the time. I don't know.
I do find the hypercritical attention that Europeans leftists lavish on the man to be more than a little tired.
Then again, in 2000, a French colleague showed me a "modified" photo of Bill Clinton's face and, where Clinton's nose should have been, a certain (normally private) body part had been digitally inserted. Great yucks.

Leno's take on the deal, when bush passed the note to Condi: "I might need a bathroom break", she passed one back that said "You should have thought of that before we left the house."

Come on Queasy! Where's your sense of Humor? Some of you guys are almost as bad as James Carville when it comes to "loyalty" to your president or the party!

In my best wingnut imitation:

"Humor!
Humor, you call it. Sacrilege is what it is!"

Here's another report that didn't get much attention, about bush having a temper tantrum with his staff over a little practical joke.

Sorry but when the UN is in serious need of reform or needs to be scrapped and Afghanistan is holding elections, I don't see anything funny about splashing something so inconsequential across the front pages of papers everywhere in attempt to deride the U.S. President. It's not about party loyalty as I'd say the same thing if this were a Clinton note.

bush derided himself.

When the president was asked why it took four days for the federal government to respond to Katrina, despite televised images of African American residents stranded on rooftops without food or water. Mr. Bush denied the delay was racially motivated.

"We did not discriminate against black people in our rescue efforts," he said. "I mean, it's not like these people were out there trying to vote."

Chill out Chukker. Bush isn't really an international laughingstock, so that lofty position is still yours for the taking. I would take a great deal of pride in seeing our very own TideFans.com laughingstock take it to the next level. Hang in there, you have my vote and support.

Kerry dubs this administration

The Katrina Administration:

However, "there's every reason to believe the president finally acted on Katrina and admitted a mistake only because he was held accountable by the press, cornered by events and compelled by the outrage of the American people, who with their own eyes could see a failure of leadership and its consequences," Kerry said.

"Katrina is a symbol of all this administration does and doesn't do," he added. "Michael Brown -- or Brownie as the president so famously thanked him for 'doing a heck of a job' -- Brownie is to Katrina what Paul Bremer is to peace in Iraq; what George Tenet is to slam-dunk intelligence; what Paul Wolfowitz is to parades paved with flowers in Baghdad; what Dick Cheney is to visionary energy policy; what Donald Rumsfeld is to basic war planning; what Tom Delay is to ethics; and what George Bush is to 'Mission Accomplished' and 'Wanted Dead or Alive.'

What a president.

Kerry is an absolute moron.
Brownie is to Katrina what Paul Bremer is to peace in Iraq
I know Paul Bremer. He is more intelligent than any other person that I have ever met. He has set the standard for how the world has dealt with terrorist threats for over 20 years. Countries from around the world consult with Paul Bremer before making decisions.

He left a corporate job making millions of dollars each year to help bring the situation in Iraq under control. He was the single most qualified person for that job IN THE WORLD. And he did it for free.

We got what we paid for. Bremer is a moron who consistantly made the wrong decisions in Iraq.
