I can't see them getting an automatic bid to the BCS.

Direct result of Utah leaving for the Pac-10 I'm guessing?

LOL at Boise though. Even when they join a better conference, it quickly becomes worse than the one they just left. They join the MWC only to see BYU and Utah leave. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see TCU lobbying to get in what's left of the Big XII soon.

I'll take it with a big grain of salt coming from BR, but this makes sense for when conferences start the big re-alignment in a few years. If ND (or any team) remains independent after that, they shouldn't be considered for the major bowls at all.

I wonder what kind of deal, if any, BYU will be able to negotiate for itself with the BCS?
I wonder if they intend to start scheduling Pac-10 teams on a regular basis, the way Notre Dame schedules Big 10 teams, in order to improve their BCS standing. Notre Dame gets in with 9 wins, so I'd expect BYU to want the same treatment.

They want to be the next Notre Dame.
And rightfully so. After they got snubbed by the Pac 10, this is definitely their best move, if not a better one. The BCS won't be able to deny them the same provisions Notre Dame has with a straight face.

I don't seem them denying them the same provisions as ND, but the other two independents (Army and Navy) don't have those.

ND gets automatic bid if Top 8 w 9 wins. But Navy and Army don't have that provision (must be Top 2).

Only if teams in conferences had it that easy. :rolleye2:

Several thoughts on this. First, BYU has a much larger stadium than Utah (64,000 vs 45,000) and yet was left out of PAC 10 discussions--that had to hurt. With Utah leaving that left only TCU with any serious BCS bowl hopes. Bringing in Boise with their small stadium did not add anything long term to MWC.

Why not go independant? How many BCS bowls has BYU been to in the past ten years? They can now at least play several BCS teams each year and if they win those would enhance their chances of being a player. They have nothing to lose.

What of the MWC now? With Utah and BYU gone I would think TCU is looking around for options, like the newest Big 12-2 member.
