My wife and I were wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a cajun restaurant that we could try in or around T-Town. We RV to all the home games but sometimes we still enjoy going out to eat to give ourselves a break from cooking. We have been to a cajun restaurant south of downtown Tuscaloosa. The name of the restaurant escapes me but it did have the word "New Orleans" in its name. We did not enjoy the food.
Any good suggestions would be appreciated!!

New Orleans Bar and Grill has opened a second location in Temerson Square behind the big RNC Bank(was AmSouth) in Downtown Tuscaloosa. It's next to Copper Top, Rhythm and Brews and Rolly Polly. Same menu as the one south of town. Enjoy!

There's Bayou Seafood by Snow Hinton park and Steamer's under the 359 bridge and of course Cypress Inn. They may not have "Cajun" in the name, but it's on the menu!:)

seafood alone does not equal cajun. i don't know about this bayou seafood place, but steamers is not cajun....which i generally hate as a food description anyway. i'm talking about etouffee, beans and rice, GOOD gumbo, seafood boiled right, rice dressing (dirty rice), etc. you can't get those things in tuscaloosa that i'm aware of....unless someone brings big bucket of it from home....like i used to do.

Their are very few real Cajun restaurants outside of the Lafayette area, if that is what you are looking for. Even while living in Baton Rouge, you could not find one there.

that's why i said i hate the word cajun to describe food (i mean you can go to a fast food joint and get a "cajun" chicken sandwich). you may not be able to get boudin and frog legs outside of cajun country, but you can get a good "louisiana style" meal....including in baton rouge.

Not to over sell the Crazy Cajun but my wife and I love the Boudin there. The food is authentic none of that just add hot sauce or cayene and call it Cajun stuff. The owner is from Louisiana and they have the etouffee, boiled crawfish, poboys, dirty rice, jambayla, not to mention sides of red beans and rice, jalapeno black eye peas and garlic mash potatoes. They even serve Turbo Dog beer (Labita brewery is in Louisiana). The place really isn't much to look at it's in a shopping center next to a grocery and you have to get over the LSU paraphernalia hanging all over the place. But it is good food and pretty easy on the wallet. As Corn Biscuit said there are few Cajun restaurants outside of Lafayette but it is the best I've found around here. Man, that place owes me a check for this plug.

Oh and BTW, some of the best gumbo that I've had around here is from a restaurant call the Bright Star in Bessemer. It's not the "cajun" place you are looking for but if you haven't been there give it a try. http://www.birminghammenus.com/brightstar/
Plus, if you go on certain nights, you'll be able to see Mal Moore dine with Steve Spurrier. :biggrin2:
