Re: Does the Barn's meltdown mean recruits are asking for raises?

I think it depends on what surfaces that really shows that Auburn is in trouble. Right now all we know is speculation and heresay. Until something officially hits or looks like it will, only then do I think recruits step back and say the Barn might not be the right place.

It could be huge but how quick it all comes out will be the key.

Just wondering. But really, any educated guesses how this whole Cam mess will effect their recruiting this year and beyond?
By signing day much more will be known. That is still several months away. By then, they should be further down the road, someone will have actually spoken up, new evidence comes out, etc. By then, if things are looking bad for the barn, then recruits might go away.

I'm sure plenty of coaches will use this against Auburn in the recruiting. The pure speculation of it will play a factor. Coaches might mention USC's punishment and how Auburn might get the samething. That would scare kids.

CAM impact on recruiting

I wonder if there are any kids who will waiver on going to Auburn because of the whole Cam issue? Maybe there would be a concern over possible repercussions from the NCAA should there be any findings later that result in forfeit of games, probation, etc. Would the potential fallout steer some kids away from Auburn? I know this, if I'm a recruit........I would steer clear because anything is possible at this point and why take a chance?

Sorry. I just noticed someone asked the same ? while I was asking it. I do think it will be a matter of months before the NCAA releases any findings. The wheels over there move slow. There might be more information about this whole thing but I doubt the NCAA will render any verdict with consequences till post signing day.

They might think it will take longer than their time at Auburn and take the risk or figure with the Feds being involved that the Barn will receive similar punishment as USC. I guess it's whether the recruits are willing to take the chance.

Too early to tell, the Barn may be completely innocent, here.

What it does is probably take the Barn out of the NC game(won't make it without Cam), and that's the biggest recruiting tool of all.

I agree. We are not discussing whether Auburn is innocent or their culpability. That is the tragedy of speculation and inuendo. Remember Richard Jewel with the Olympic bombing? The guy was innocent but his life was destroyed by just being the initial suspect. Lost his job, his wife, his life, etc. even though he was innocent. So I'm not talking about innocent vs. guilty. Just the impact.

Remember it took forever for USC to get hit after all the Reggie Bush stuff. If this thing drags out slowly without any major developments between now and signing day, this could get interesting. Voters could swing to TCU possibly over Auburn. Recruits could swing away from Auburn. I would imagine many will stay with their commitment but you have to know coaches will be tying Auburn to the Reggie Bush incident and saying this could easily happen to Auburn. If you are a recruit on the fence, you might jump where you believe you'll be safe. It isn't an indictment. You would just hate to be at a program where you are playing for at best the state championship.

The speculation could cost Auburn a couple of guys. JaWuan James switched over our textbook ordeal. These allegations are much more serious, and much more on the radar. Obviously their recruiting is down and out, if the allegations proves true, but even the hint of probation could cost them some guys.

I wouldn't mind turning Rose to us. Seems like a lot of drama follows Florence around, so I'm happy to take Dix and call it a day.

I think Coach Cheeze and the AD bet the farm on Can Newton. Without him its another forgettable year on the plains, with him they are a favorite to do something most Barners never expected to see. This year they had the perfect schedule, almost every game was at home, a senior laden offensive line, they got lucky with some DL recruits that panned out really well. They got lucky early and won a few games they could have lost.

They are closer to the national championship than they have ever been in my lifetime. If they screw this up I wouldn't give 2 cents for anyone's career down there.

I can't help but think the NCAA has already told Auburn "you probably have a problem here." They have played him anyway. That is my gut feeling.

Once Auburn comes under investigation (and it is coming) it will drag on for a long time just because of how many players are on payroll. How long is anyone's guess. It will have to hurt them.

Yes in the long run it will hurt them more the longer it drags out. If a decision comes quick they can try and regroup and change their sales pitch but the longer it takes the harder it is to prepare damage control.

:BigA:The BIGGEST problem is that now they will be prohibited from being the high bidder. Who down there would dare pay any kid knowing that the FBI is still snooping around. Lets put it into perspective, who would they have signed if they were not paying? Cam and his 180,000 no, Dyer and his 80,000 no. Now they get to recruit with no money, and trust me all these kids will know what is coming down the road with the NCAA. When they have to follow the rules they will be toast!

Recruiting services like the one operated by Kenny Rogers good or bad? | al.com
Former MSU quarterback John Bond said earlier this month that Rogers inquired about money from Mississippi State to get Newton's signature. And MSU booster Bill Bell told ESPN.com last week that Rogers relayed messages to him from Newton's father, Cecil, detailing monetary demands.

While the NCAA investigation is continuing, Rogers' involvement in Newton's recruitment is curious in and of itself. Why would Newton -- a high-profile prospect with uncommon ability surely well known to any college recruiter in the country -- need outside help in the recruiting process?

"He doesn't need anybody to promote him," said Randy Taylor, a former recruiting coordinator at UCLA and UNLV. "But he sure needed someone to advise him."

AU will be the sexy choice for recruits right now. But, just remember a few short years ago how Rutgers, Cincinnati, etc. were the sexy picks especailly with ESPN playing them up every week. Look how Rutgers has turned out after that one or two good years they had. Saw a bit of their game on TV the other day. There was NO BODY in that stadium. Thousands and thousands and thousands of empty seats.

Timing is everthing. If it stays quiet until signing day and the barn plays in the BCS championship, then I can see them having a top 10-15 recruiting year. However, I don't believe it will stay quiet, but I don't believe the investigation will be completed by Feb either. If it looks bad for the barn in late January, but nothing official from the NCAA, then look for a top 25-30 class. Playing for the championship will carry some weight with 17-18 year olds. But I don't see any big time recruits going there, just alot of 3 star and lower 4 star players.
