Just wanted to vent a little bit -- I had to deal with the one bad thing that Alabama's success this season is causing, and that is a huge demand for tickets. My girlfriend and I flew down from Chicago to see the game this past weekend with my brother. I hadn't been back to campus since 1998, and my girlfriend has never seen a big-time college game.
I'd been told all week by some 'Bama folks that we'd have no problems getting tickets to the game for face value or less, especially if we waited until shortly before kickoff. Well, that turned out to be far from reality. When I saw about an hour before the game that there seemed to be an awful lot of people holding up multiple fingers for the number of tickets they wanted, and not too many people holding up tickets as sellers, I feared that we were in trouble. I was right.
Even right before game time, the demand far exceeded the supply. Even after the game started, the situation didn't improve. In the SECOND quarter, sellers still wanted $50 or more per ticket. I couldn't even find three tickets together for less than $75 per ticket.
I didn't bring that much cash with me, and refused to buy tickets for such outrageous prices, even though we traveled all the way from Chicago to see the game. As a result, we didn't get tickets, and ended up watching the second half at Dreamland in Northport.
What a huge disappointment, especially because I was so looking forward to showing my girlfriend what a great experience it is to be at an Alabama game, especially on such a wonderful, fall day, with the team unbeaten.
We might come down next year, but I won't ever again -- even if others tell me I don't need tickets in advance -- come to a 'Bama game without tickets already in hand.
I'd be interested in hearing the thoughts of others on whether or not they've ever seen such a frenzy for a 'Bama game against a lackluster team like Utah State. I overheard others outside the stadium saying that they'd never seen ticket demand like this past Saturday. Did y'all sense the same thing?
ROLL TIDE from Chicagoland. (P.S. The Dreamland was delicious, as usual. Bought a jar of BBQ sauce to bring home, too.)
