Question: Can someone explain, or try to explain the recent obsession with tattoos?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Ya'll keep it clean, K?

Staci's out this afternoon and I have work to do.

These REETs (Rapidly Evolving Epic Threads) are difficult to control. Fun, but difficult. :)

Personally, I think that it a waste of money. When I went into the Navy I was told that I would drink coffee, smoke and have tats by the time I got out. I got out and have no tats, drink no caffiene and don't smoke.
It is fine to have them but I feel that there are much better things to waste money on.

You should really try to get out more...

Midget tranny hookers per VJ and Rasp.

Actually read the going thing right now is wemmenz getting anal tats. Seriously..seen it on tv late one night at a tattoo festival. The one shown on tv looked like a case of splattered diarrhea.

It's my bed time. I prolly could have done without that visual. ;)

Well, BB, there is a theological explanation, but you can PM me if you want that one.

I have eight, including a Marine Corps bulldog with a Kelley helmet and several skulls including a SYF complete with a 13-point bolt. Two decades of unbridled rebellion literally left their mark on me. To answer the obvious questions, yes, I would get rid of them all if I could and no, I don't advise that anyone else get one, either. Fortunately, all of mine can be covered with normal clothing.

With the exception of military or certain religous affiliations, I think the tat love fest results from people wanting to show they are unique...like everyone else. :)

I guess some people feel the need to attract attention to themselves and tatoos certainly can accomplish just that. I've got no problem with it. It's their life and they should do with it as they please. :D

I'm sorry if this offends anyone here but IMO they look trashy on females.

Wow, this was an interesting read.

1) It seems to have become more common to have visible tats in the mid-90s. When I was in boot camp in 1992, maybe 7 of the 58 guys had one and none were visible. One guy had the entire side of one leg covered with a dragon. Most were more conservative & I don't recall anyone with more than one. I blame it on Mike Tyson, LOL.

2) My uncle was a Marine DI. For years he was the only person I knew with them & he got them back when that was how you proved your manhood. I didn't like how sick they looked as he aged so it's never been a temptation for me to get one.

3) The first women I knew who had them were lesbians back when you didn't admit that. It created a stereotype to some degree.

4) I think about 97% of tattoos are just people seeking attention or validation. Look how many girls get tramp stamps. That's sick enough but then those same girls nearly always wear clothes designed to let you see the tattoo. Sounds like attention seeking to me. There are those like Anita (no offense intended) who have paid up on bets and a friend of mine has one as a memorial to her daughter killed by a drunk driver at 32 (she & her other two daughters got the same one in a clothes covered spot). But I think a person who gets a visible tattoo usually is seeking attention.

5) Most folks I know are like most smokers I know as they age - they wish they'd never done it.

I'm probably just speaking from my biased white middle class perspective but I wouldn't do it. I even had one friend actually ask me based on an OT passage if she was going to Hell for getting a tattoo. I said, "No, but you are for rooting for LSU." (yes she does).
