The wife and I were having this discussion the other day, because when she comes home from grocery shopping, she always buys Nestle Water, which is just awful. She buys it because it's the cheapest, but to me it has a plastic taste. And I'm not someone who cares how much the drink cost. I'm fine with Sam's Choice water, it tastes about as good as any water I've found.

But, she's convinced that all water tastes the same, and I just don't think that's true. I equate it to water that comes out of the faucet. It rarely tastes the same as water that comes in a bottle. To which she replies, "Well that's because they put minerals and stuff in the water at the treatment plants to purify it." Uh... that's what they do at the bottling plants too right?

Anyway, Simple yes or no will do. :biggrin2:

BTW, I guess I should have clarified. I'm asking if you can taste a difference between bottled waters. Example, does a bottle of Nestle Water taste different than a bottle of Dasani water?

I can tell the difference. My water (Madison County) does not taste good to me. If I run my drinking water thru a filter it makes all the difference in the world. Think your disagreement with your wife is one of those female things where anything you say is wrong. Might as well throw up your hands and say, Anything you say dear.

Yes, there is a difference.

Dasani tastes different than Aquafina, for example. Dasani contains a small amount of sodium, but I'm not sure that's where the difference comes in at.

I voted YES because i can taste a difference between some brands. Not all, though.

Tap yes. Bottles not so much. I think some brands tend to taste like plastic if they have been in the sun or the bottles have gotten hot.

I can not taste a difference between bottled water and tap water if they are the same temperature.
According to a Penn and Teller experiment, neither could "water connoisseurs".

Agree...I can't drink tap water either. Some of the bottled water does taste different at times, but not often...probably depends on the shelf life/storage like he mentioned above, which can make it taste plastic-y sometimes.
I alternate & refill my bottles for a while with filtered water until they start tasting funny, then replace them.

Most definitely with tap water, especially based on location. As for bottled water, I prefer Dasani.

I dont buy water but from what I have had from various sources it all taste the same or close enough. The tap water in Baltimore is pretty good although I am on a well and that is fine also.

Tap water can be dangerous. Many older faucets are made of lead and you can contract lead poisoning if you drink tap water without letting it run first. I drink water from the dispenser in my freezer door. If you don't know whether your faucets have lead in them, and you must drink tap water, let it run for about 15 seconds before drinking it or using it for cooking.

Generally, there's no material difference in water taste for me. I like Aqualibrium, Dasani, Nestle, Aquafina, Sam's Choice, and Birmingham tap. As long as it's ice-cold, most water tastes to me like...well...water. However, I have had a few bottled brands and a few municipal sources that taste really bad (New Orleans water...ugh).

I can definitely taste a difference between bottle and tap, and between different bottled "brands" of water.

Personally, I do not get the bottled water fad. Tap water tastes fine to me. I will even drink it if it comes out brown at first, I just let the tap run for a little while. Only thing I won't drink is barrel/rain water. It just seems weird to me to buy water in bottles at a store when there is, essentially, a limitless supply at the kitchen sink. But maybe thats just me.

Me too. My preference is to clean and keep old juice bottles. I like Tropicana bottles best, because the mouth is large enough to allow ice cubes to pass through. I fill it with ice then tap water. I have great tasting ice water for hours, and don't have to waste my money buying bottled water from a store. :)

I can tell the difference between good water and bad. I can usually tell if the water comes from a plastic bottle. We use filtered tap water at our house and it tastes just fine to us. We have bottles saved to fill up in case of storms or to put in ice chest when we go fishing.
