There are some things I’ve heard that are truly concerning about practice.

I think outside of Lanning… DeBoer was the only good choice available after Lanning said “no”.

For those wanting Kiffin…. It wasn’t ever a possibility. Maybe as time goes on it is possible, but his major hurdle remains the BOT. For those who only know about the funny “Joey freshwater” stuff…. That’s mild by comparison of what he did and hasn’t leaked. He burned bridges that won’t be mended until either people higher up get replaced or Alabama gets desperate enough to take the risk. So yall need to forget about it for the time being.

So either hope things turn with DeBoer and he becomes better with time, he leaves for the NFL, or just find another thing to do on Saturdays. Because DeBoer is getting a Year 3 unless the wheels totally fall off.

Interesting read.

This quote concerns me most, and pretty much tracks with what we've seen so far.

"Program insiders told CBS Sports this offseason that DeBoer truly believes in his abilities to out-scheme and out-think opponents and prioritizes it over the mental toughness Saban used to drill into his teams."

Curious how this didn't get reported earlier amid all the sunshine pumping and good vibes of the preseason....
Spot on. I think it was Urban Meyer who once said something like schemes don't win football games, players do. And the players have to want to win. We look like a bunch of marshmallows on the field right now.

I guess we'll have to see how the year goes, but right now it looks like we don't even have wheels. FSU made us look slow and weak with no will to win. Right now it looks like a looooooooooooooonnnng year.

Somebody will have to let me know if he owns up to just how bad he has no idea about what’s he’s talking about.

He perennially hypes up the OL and this time puffed up the whole team as his NC pick.

Such an empty headed smoke blowing meat suit posing as an expert.
Those predictions aren’t really his fault. Very few teams have more overall talent , he has no idea from practice these guys would just mail it in , and take self discipline as optional.

THE TELLING STAT IN THAT VIDEO IS THAT ALABAMA HAS HAD MORE PENALTIES THAN THEIR OPPONENT EVERY GAME UNDER KALEN DEBOER.
—nothing screams undisciplined more than that stat.—

If that's true that's scary, because FSU out schemed us & manhandled us, allllll night long at the LOS on both sides of the ball..

That's a finesse football style mentality & not a physicality style football like we're used too at Bama
I’ll be honest, while I personally prefer the “physicality” style I really don’t care as long as it wins lots of FB games and championships. The problem is we aren’t winning much or playing well. If somebody is gonna talk a big game about their skills, they better back it up. FSU’s punk QB did. Our coach can barely speak intelligible English at a press conference.

Scary if true but it is the "according to insiders" that strikes me. Could be a total fake news job just to write a thrilling piece.
There is proof of that with the lack of physicality on defense, lack of a running game, lack of situational awareness , lack of discipline with penalties. It could be a summation of someone’s observation. But there is evidence.

I agree actually & along as we win it doesn't matter, buttttt, the SEC is a physical conference & always will be..

Both Coach Saban & Coach Bryant understood that embracing that fact..

That's why they're both the greatest two HC's in college football history & i don't want too deviate from that style of play..

That’s the difference between the PAC- whatever and the SEC, every team has near NFL caliber linemen in the trenches.

I wasn’t even aware that we offered Lanning. I thought we had when he flew down to T-town, but then people said he wasn’t offered.

He was my preferred choice, of what I thought was available.

I’m only passing on information I was told. My oldest son is in Chicago and ran into a Bama fan who talked to a booster club member. The booster club member stayed at the team hotel Friday night. He said players had random friends coming in and out of the hotel until 1 and 2 am. Players were also getting door dash deliveries of fast food up until the early morning hours of Saturday. They even had trouble getting organized to leave the team hotel on time for the stadium. And we wonder why we played so sorry. I highly doubt this stuff went on with Coaches Bryant, Stallings and Saban. But it makes you think…oh how I wish this was not true…

Not great - and not making excuses here - but if this is true I would bet that (a) this was a handful of players and far from the entire team, and (b) in the current NIL/portal era, most teams in CFB are dealing with this sort of thing to an extent.

The days of a Bryant/Stallings type coach being consistently successful are probably long gone. The players make too much money and have too much control and that’s not going away. The drill instructor routine doesn’t work like it used to. We were seeing shades of this in Saban’s last few seasons and he had softened considerably. Even Kirby doesn’t run a marine-style boot camp over there. Watch him mic’d up in practice and he’s almost a goofball.

If this is even true, it needs to be cleaned up but it’s probably not losing games for us in this day and age. I don’t buy the whole “you’ve got to be a grizzled jack*** that runs a military operation to win in the SEC” because we’ve seen the opposite approach work in other places. Sark is more of a cerebral coach. Mike Leach was the furthest thing you’d ever find from this and he was going 9-4 at MSU. The most militaristic coach in the conference by all accounts is Brian Kelly - I’ve seen him mic’d and he’s something that is not safe language for this board - and look at his overall success rate. Not bad but a barren trophy case and a lot of big game flops, yesterday notwithstanding.

What will get us beat is flawed defense scheming, poor adjustments, inadequate depth and subpar player development. Those are all legit concerns the moment and need to be corrected ASAP. Yesterday was mostly a bad defensive game plan with bad calls and adjustments that came too late, coupled with an offensive game plan that got off script too early and asked too much of a first-time starter in a hostile environment. All of that, coupled with an FSU team that is probably leaps and bounds better than a year ago playing with a massive chip on its shoulder. I still think this staff is capable of right-sizing. The next two weeks will be very telling though, and I could be completely wrong.

At this point this is far too plausible. There was a point mid-season last year where they claimed they were going to be more disciplined and someone actually said out loud that the players were going to start being on time to meetings.

If that was ever a thing you already have an enormous problem. Then this whole we're going to be disciplined now I promise thing happened again during the season! Mind you, I remember going on a road trip in high school and screwing around all night as well (for the record we lost, because sleep is important), but I wasn't part of a multi-million dollar program. If you can't enforce a curfew on game night what the heck are you getting paid so darn much for?

I read this in another message board. I think it is a fake thing going around. Someone said they saw the exact same wording on other teams sites complaining about their own team. So hopefully it isn’t true! And if things were like that last year, why didn’t this quote come up then? I’m not sure what to think but I’m going to say it’s probably not true.

If too many more losses pile up, and the pressure gets too great, DeBoer may decide that watching his daughter play softball at UW is better than dealing with Bama.

Given Deboer’s buyout and the fact that Bama’s pockets aren’t as deep as some other programs, I would anticipate him being not-so-gently encouraged to make some staff changes especially on defense at the end of this season absent major improvement.

I like to think that "outwork" means outwork both in terms of scheme AND physicality. We need to get back to that.

He was never in Ttown, just a Twitter rumor

Byrne did his search off the grid while Sexton got to release ambiguous but just plausible enough leaks to get all of his guys raises. He *might've* told Byrne, "I'll ask them if they're interested," but I don't think Lanning, Sark, whomever, or even Norvell were ever seriously considered or contacted

Byrne had likely talked to Sexton enough to know that CKD would accept and therefore he was our "first choice" because we never directly talked to anyone else
