Game Thread: CFP Qtr: #10 Miami vs #2 Ohio State (12/31 ESPN @ 630p CT)

I have to say, this result surprised me.
Wasn't Miami getting 9.5 in the spread?

I think too much of the betting public thinks in terms of normal circumstances and regular season results. It’s why I said i wouldn’t pick any favorites to cover except Oregon.

The problem is that it is extremely hard to start the engine back up after 25 days against a team who played an emotional game on the road two weeks ago. Miami is quite possibly pound for pound the most talented roster in college football. They certainly have the best front seven. Their kryptonite is a bad game from Beck.

Wasn't it their older brother Luke who was hired by Dykes at TCU and not their father? Their dad is Blake Brockermeyer, who played at UT Austin and in the pros for a number of years, and their brother Luke also played at UT. I believe Dykes cut loose of Luke after James transferred to Miami.
You’re right. It was the older brother Luke.

Personally I’m for a bye because it’s a reward for a regular season. But it really needs to be campus game or something closer to the first round game so one team isn’t so hot and the other is so cold.
What they REALLY need to get rid of is the conference championship games. That weekend should be the real bye and then the playoffs start the next week. The bowls are already dead, so I wouldn't care if they completely went away.

Conference championships are necessary especially because it’s highly likely ties happen. The ACC had a 5 way tie and the SEC had a 4 way tie. Most of these teams tied didn’t play each other. There has to be a way to settle it.

-Additionally I think Notre Dame should be forced to either join a conference or forced to play 3 of the top 7 B1G and SEC each every year

- Also we don’t need fixed brackets. Each round should result in the high seed playing lowest remaining.

Ex.

#1 Indiana vs #10 Miami
#2 Ohio St vs #9 Bama
#3 Georgia vs #6 Ole Miss
#4 Texas Tech vs #5 Oregon

TOSU had just completed a long pass and seemed to be threatning and then the Miami DB had the pic 6.

I think that ONE play changed the dynamic. It was just too much for TOSU to overcome!

Here's hoping Bama DBs make the same kind of impact!!!
it seemed like they had all the momentum going into the fourth quarter and couldn't finish the job

The big takeaway from the Cotton Bowl was that both teams ran the ball really well. It seemed both of them were getting 5 yard chunks almost every time there was a running play. In comparison to our running game where the RB may or may not even make it back to the LOS. I still believe our OL is, and will continue to be, our downfall until somehow it is miraculously fixed.

Well, it certainly has made Alabama a study in “ How far can a one dimensional offense take a team in the era of today’s “ college” football? “. As far as I know, the prevailing wisdom is still that sooner or later it’ll be a team’s downfall.

Our biggest mistake would be trying to force a square peg into a round hole.

We are NOT suddenly going to be a running team. Got to dance with what brought you.

We may lose to Indiana, but if we try to run on 1st and 2nd down and pass on 3rd down. We will get blown out.

Best thing for us is to go 12 personnel and protect Ty and let him work with 3 receivers. We can scatter some runs in to keep them honest, but if we are going to win this game, it'll be thru Ty and the receivers.

All these coaches sound like a younger Nick Saban. ‘ the scoreboard is a distraction’, ‘ play the next play’ , ‘dominate the man in front of you’ , ‘ mass kicks arse’

Coach Saban take on Miami on GameDay a month ago; " If they get in this playoff, they are going to be the most dangerous team that anybody has to play because of the talent level they have"
Coach knows ball
