When MM was off. cordinator did CGS let him go. I remember everyone complaining about the offense, but i couldn't recall why he left. I remember CGS wanted to be part of past coaching searches, but MM never contacted him. Do you think mm holds a grudge against CGS.

That's a very good point. You may have something there. I think back to Stallings phone call with Finebaum a few days ago and when asked if he was interested in replacing Shula, his reply was, "I haven't been asked".

The way I remember it after Mal was reassigned to a position in the Athletic Department, Homer Smith was forced on Stallings by the AD at the time (Bockrath?). Don't know if Gene decided to reassign Mal, or if he was told to by the AD. I do know that Shula's offense looked like something Hal Mumme would run when compared to Mal's offense.

Indeed MM was fired as Stallings OC. But fired is really a misnomer - he just was kicked back into the athletic department by the GOBs, where with their support he subsequently became AD. It was an example of poor job performance resulting in a lateral move, something that happens in every organization when you want to remove a really personable but underperforming employee from a delicate position, but do not want to (or cannot) fire him outright. In Mal's case, he could not run an effective offense, but he ended up running the whole show as a result.

Mal was originally fired from Bama by Perk when Perk took over.
Hootie Ingram was the AD who hired Stallings.

He hired most of the staff before even hiring Gene.
Of the coaches Gene was allowed to bring in, one was Mal.
Hootie was the AD who "moved" Mal off the field, hired Homer Smith, who Stallings didn't/wouldn't/couldn't utilize.
Hootie was in total control of the football program (not Stallings) until he and Gene got the ncaa on us, then Hootie was forced out;
that's when Bockrath came on board.
