Chris Leak files NFL draft papers

I bet he is just seeing where he could end up if he entered the draft. But, This kind of worries me about or chances of getting Tim Tebow. With Leak gone, Tebow would just have to compete with Portis for the job. I know that is the same situation at Bama, but that was an advantage Bama had over Florida (immediate starting possibilities). Thoughts?

Any junior worth their salt is gonna file those papers. Leak will be back at UF, just wait until he hears back from the NFL. He won't like what they have to say.

I sort of agree with you Ping. I don't think Leak will go high enough in the draft to entice him to come out. Not with Matt Leinert, Brodie Croyle, Jay Cutler, and potentially Vince Young and Brady Quinn as QB draft choices. If he comes back for his senior year, and Meyer is still adamant about staying with the spread option, Leak will fare no better than he did this year. So, I guess he is kinda in a no-win situation. Plus, I think Leak has been overated from the beginning. He's a decent QB when he has protection, but he was in no way going to be a great QB in my opinion.

I have been saying for awhile that Chris Leak will be in the draft this spring. He has been getting beat up all year running an offense he doesn't like and didn't come to UF to run. Staying another year will not improve his draft position since he will still be running the same offense. I think Chris has one of the best touches on his passes in the country. He has good size and will be a good NFL QB. I don't see him lasting past the 3rd, maybe 4th round. IMO.

...GBT, i agree with you - been thinking that myself for a while now

can't see how staying another year will help CL - at least he's healthy at this point, he better "git" while he can

This is probably a veiled attempt at swaying Tebow anyway. Scenario: Leak files papers - Meyer tells Tebow Leak is gone - Tebow is swayed and commits thinking all he has to beat out is Portis - Leak conveniently stays because he "doesn't like his draft status".

Our starting QB is leaving also. I still think right now, its too close to call on Tebow.

Leak leaving early has no bearing on Tebow selecting Florida. Do you think he would win the starting job with Leak leaving, no. Portis has the position and it will be his to lose. Tebow won't beat him out in fall camp.

As for Leak leaving early, if he doesn't mind being drafted on the 2nd day then he should go. For those who think he got beat up in the last 4-5 games need to actually watch the games. If you noticed, Meyer adjusted his offense where it isn't so much the gimmick offense. Leak has been able to drop back and throw.

AS far as potential in the NFL. Leak has a slow and long throwing motion and doesn't have the arm stregth other pro candidates have.

Chris Leak files NFL draft papers however

LEAK NOT LEAVING: Meyer said he isn't worried about QB Chris Leak leaving early for the NFL, even though the junior's father filed paperwork with the league's draft advisory council to learn where Leak might be drafted.

"From what Chris has told me, he's coming back for sure," Meyer said. "I'm not sure why they did that."
