Climate News: part 3

This breaks my heart. My family had planned to return to Jasper next month before my chemo treatments interrupted. It’s the farthest north I have been except on an airplane flying to China. The drive between Jasper and Banff is second to none.

The Park fire in CA has been the bigger news here in the States, so I’m posting in case some were unaware.

It's "mostly sunny" here but smoke from the Park Fire has it looking like it's about to storm. It's 11 AM now and looks like dusk. Visibility is listed as 4 miles now but I can't see the hills 2 miles away. Air quality is "unhealthy". I still have to cut the grass.

Hate to hear about all of the fires. We have folks still living here that were displaced from Paradise a few years back.

It just took a minute to catch up. Visibility is down to 0.75 miles and it smells like a BBQ stand is running full blast around the corner (when there isn't one). Ugh. I got the dog's toys up from the yard but I'm gonna give it a bit to see if the smoke clears in a bit.

My grandson is on the Falls Fire in Oregon. I hated for him to go back to that so soon after losing his mom...

Dang, man, stay safe. I hope you don’t have to bug out.

Well, when it rains it pours. The worst events in my life have happened in waves. I hope and pray your grandson is ok. You and your family need some healing time.

Wonder if China,
Update on the Gulf Shores part of my post: now, at the ever decreasing beach access parking lots, it’ll cost you $15 to park - period, even for an hour.
So I’m hoping our ever changing climate can stir up a Cat 10 hurricane and wipe the Alabama Coast clean, from Fort Morgan to the Florida line; and take all those rich snobs with it.
Said parking fee increase (it currently is $10 for all day, $4 for half day which is no more) goes into effect next year (I didn’t hear date but surely before summer). Scumbags.
When I was growing up in the 60’s and surf fishing along Gulf Shores, primarily around Ft Morgan, almost nothing there all the way to the Florida line but sand dunes and sea oats. Been going downhill ever since IMO.

In Gulf County Fl, (Port St Joe), the owners of multi-million dollar homes are upset that they are paying a larger portion of property taxes. While people in the north part of the county are living in shed homes and campers while working jobs to provide services to those home owners.

We were there just a few days before the fire started. There was a pair of bald eagles nesting at Medicine Lake. Hope their nest and babies survived.

‘Astonishing’ Antarctica heat wave sends temperatures 50 degrees above normal
A record-breaking heat wave unfolding at what should be the coldest time in Earth’s coldest place has scientists concerned about what it could mean for the future health of the Antarctic continent, and the consequences it could inflict for millions of people across the globe.

Temperatures since mid-July have climbed up to 50 degrees Fahrenheit above normal over parts of Antarctica and unseasonable warmth could continue through the first half of August.

The latest data shows high temperatures in portions of East Antarctica – where the most abnormal conditions are ongoing – that are typically between minus 58 and minus 76 degrees Fahrenheit are now closer to minus 13 to minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit.

TS Debby -- spelled just as my wife spells her name -- is headed this way, probably late Monday night to Tuesday -- and hang around on Wednesday. We're forecast for 10-20 inches of rain -- which hopefully will drain off into the marshes, swamps, rivers, and ocean around here. We need the rain...but not this much at one time.
