Coach addresses suspended receivers

  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

That sucks. It's a hard lesson learned, but at least the door is open for 3/4 to return. Let's hope they get their act together for the long haul, not just to play football.

it's a process. everybody knows it's his way or the highway when they commit. do it his way and you will be just fine. youmay not turn out to be an all american or a first round draft pick at your position or even a full time starter but what you learn is to do your best at everything you do. to not give up and never stop trying to improve. in other words you may not be a great football player but you will learn what it takes to be a great person.

Sounds like Lewis decided he was done with playing football and ready to move on with the rest of life since PT may have been tough to come by in his last year. Best of luck to all the young men.

Yep. And a not a bad thing, either.
I agree. Brent has worked hard this spring and done what was asked of him. He worked at LB most of the spring and right at the end was moved to HB. I was impressed with his effort.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I thought his choice of the word "adolescent" in describing the suspended players was interesting.

Will Lewis be graduating this spring?

BC has outstanding overall athletic ability. If he can bulk up a bit for the H-back position, that would be all kinds of good news. He's not quite as tall as Smelley, but he's really more athletic and can do more with the ball after a catch...

Agree. Looks to be a dangerous weapon at the position.

"It's not up to me, it's up to them," Saban said of the possibility of their return. "I had two adolescents at home, and could not predict what they were going to do. I can't predict what those guys are going to do, either."
Ouch.

Agreed - I was impressed with what we saw at the A Day game from him, and that was only about a week after the move was made. BC is a great athlete and I hope he works out at the position.

I also thought the use of the word "adolescent" was something he chose purposefully. It lent a condescending air to the statement. Let's hope it hit home...

He was clear on it was not for him to judge. They know what to do. He's waiting on them to do it. Can't ask anymore than that.

Coach said tonight in HSV to the effect that BC maybe had found a home at H-back...

I guess we'll never learn what they did wrong except act like adolescents.
What's the point in airing a laundry list of their transgressions? Coach has made it clear that they've been acting immaturely and it's up to them to change that pattern and show some progress in self-discipline...

That's good to hear, IMO! If he can block well and learn the position, it will be like basically having another running back to throw the ball to. Having a H-back with the skills I think he can bring to the position could force opposing defenses to dedicate a safety to cover him, and that would could open a lot of other opportunities for the others receivers if I had to do so.
