Coach Rod/WVU

This actually may have been his best class at WVU. They have an almost non-existent recruiting base in state. They have to overcome the hillbilly image. Their facilities are not the best in the world.

Since Nehlen's days, WVU has lived on recruiting sleepers and coaching them up.

I wouldn't trade Saban for Rod ... but a coach that never has a top twenty recruiting class, but finishes in the BCS top ten two years in a row and competes for the national championship has something going for him.

In that "ready-made" , girlie-man Big East conference .:cool2:

Amen brother...Amen

louisville and rutgers are the other "conference powers"...i mean honestly.....the only reason all those teams were so ranked so high was because their only "big games" were against themselves...ul rutgers......wvu rutgers....etc.

Yeah when he said no I didn't cry.

Few people did, just thought it was embarassing that he would turn us down. But Im definately happier with what we have, and honestly I'd rather have had Tedford than him.

I was embarrassed that he turned us down too. But watching him coach that Hula bowl, where he seemed to be VERY aware the camera was on him and seemed to enjoy it a bit too much, reminded me somewhat of Houston Nutt with all that animated jumping around. Glad we got Saban but even if we didn't I am glad we didn't get RR.

I admit...I wanted him when we were courting him...but mainly because I didn't think we could get Saban. I know the RR situation bothered my father a lot. He lives out in the mountains in WV and is a Bama alumni. He spends a lot of time trying to convince the other farmers out there how superior the SEC and Alabama are to the Big East and WV. A few days before everything went down he said to me that he didn't really want Rich Rod but that the absolute WORSE thing that could happen would be for him to turn us down...well...he did...and all I could say was...sorry dad...maybe it's time to move. So I guess in closing...everyone pray for my dad that Nick Saban can give him his pride back.

If you look at CRR's backfield, you'll notice that he recruited some rejects... yet they are playing very well in his offense.

He put together a good staff there, and they are a disciplined, well coached team. That guy knows how to develop players..

He is a good coach.... period...

And recruiting to WV is not like Bama.. They don't have the tradition, facilities, or recruiting base that we do, so you wouldn't expect that much, but I think he did pretty well for where he is...

IMHO, berating CRR makes us look small... Good luck to him.

Some of y'all need to get over him turning us down, he did exactly the same thing that Coach Saban did, he made the decision that he felt was best for his family. The guy is a dang good coach and would have done a fine job for us, whether you care to admit it or not.

RR may very well be a great coach. I'm just glad he didn't end up as the HC at Bama. I was never excited at the prospect of him being here. It's difficult to say whether his record and reputation benefit from the conference he coaches in. Rutgers, WVU, and Louisville aren't exactly names that conjure up images of superior football prowess. Watching WVU dismantle Georgia was impressive though. I don't know if he would have been a great success at Bama or not. I'm relieved that we don't have to find out.
