I've heard it mentioned if the conference champions rule goes in effect , that Slive should do away with the SEC Championship Game ,, not sure what good that would do ...
How is Notre Dame and any other independent going to fit in the scenario ?
I'm for the the top 4 teams ,,, I heard enough about spreading the wealth in the first presidential election !!!

I'm not sure it matters if he wants to or not, I don't think he has the power to do that. I think it's an NCAA rule to have a Conference Championship Game if you have 12 or more teams.

Game is not required. It is only allowed if a conference has 12 or more teams. And it was not originally intended for Division One. NCAA had a meltdown when the SEC expanded to 12 teams and used that rule in order to have a CG.

Re: Only Conference Champions

I'm not an expert but I did not think it was a requirement to have the game. Ohio Stae is afraid you will get 2 SEC teams in the playoffs & that could mean a half a Billon dollars. That plain & simple.
What if 3 teams wre in the 4 team playoff (if adopted) that woul just kill them.

Re: Only Conference Champions

Maybe this should be a different but, this topic started me thinking. How many times has college football rules been changed because of Alabama. Tear away jerseys ?

Athletic dorms, 125 player, lots more. If they can't beat us just change the rules.

... limited contact in the Spring , limited time on the road in the Spring , signing limitations , the inability to replace any non-qualifiers who were signed , etc. . Gridiron socialism at the expense of those who are willing to work harder to succeed . :(

I wouldn't have a problem with top 3 conference champs and an at large team.

During much of this recent discussion it has been Bama fans against LSU and our rivals. Just because we didn't win the conference last year doesn't mean we will ever see that situation again.

Alabama has proven if you change the rules to prevent a situation that awarded us a championship some believed we didn't deserve, we win it again with the rule just put in place to prevent it from happening again.

We'll have a better shot at the championship due to the quality of our team in the next few years to come, regardless of what rules are in place.

My only problem is that which 3 top conference champs, because with 16 team conferences there will be at least 4 conferences. As for an at large team how would that work? Does ND have to win at least 9 games and be in the top 12 to get the automatic at large invite? It is still a veiled attempt to limit the SEC to only 1 team in a 4 team playoff.

I think that Notre Dame needs only to go over .500 to get an invite to the playoff. They are God's team after all.....

If they go to Champions Only -- you do realize that Karma will have it blow up in the Big 10s face......

Wouldn't it be great if you had USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Michigan in the Top 4 -- with Bama at #5 ? lol --

I don't understand why not just have the top 4 teams pay for it all..If the Big 10 champ is ranked 6th & the ACC Champ is 5th in the country at the end of the year..How is that fair they play for the NC..I just don't get..Let the top 4 teams play for the NC whether or not they're conference champs..

Ive been thinking ALOT about this lately. I think that it should be a topic especially for all the anti-Bama fans that lurk such as the boogers, lspoo, high state and the other jealous fanbases. It would explain and point out the core of Bamas winning tradition and valid championships. Maybe then theyll realize just how much Alabama has dominated the game and how the rest of football has traditionally attempted to play catch up. Immediately I can think of 2 or 3 from Coach Saban alone that have dictated the game. Its pretty sad when these other programs have no work ethic, desire, creativity, vision, ability and are only lazy, envious, poorly prepared slobs and the ncaa has to step in to try to bring them to a UA's level.

That's probably the reason they are insignificant, since our country is becoming more of a Godless country.

I just think that they are just like the old Israelites, a stiff-necked group of people. Has touchdown Jesus turned His back on them?

Hopefully, they will remain insignificant for a long time.

Notre Dame needs to join a conference or be left out in the cold at playoff time. Do they think they should be in the playoff just because they are Notre Dame?

Now if they joined the B1G, then I would like to see ND vs The Alabama Crimson Tide for the NC! I'm sure "the Bear" would talk to Jesus about a level playing field for the Tide in this game.

Also, I just can't understand why they don't join the B1G so that they would have a chance to play in the "Grand-daddy of 'em all" in Pasadena, Cali.

I'm with you on that one. Of course, I think its all about $$$. Every conference wants a piece of the pie.

The ONLY way that only Conf. champs should be in the playoffs is if we only have 4 conferences that are broken into 8 divisions; divisions champs play for the conf. championship then the conf. champs play it off.
