When Florida was consistently strong, both Miami and FSU were struggling, and USF and UCF were just dots on a map. It was easy for Spurrier and Urbs to get players because they had no instate competition. Now with NIL, everyone and his brother are combing Florida for diamonds in the rough.
Good morning jthomas,

Appreciate your perspective and while you are not wrong, that loss and most of the losses over the past 3 years had a LOT more to do with the coaching than player quality. We've consistently brought in high quality talent. And IMHO, it's been squandered by a head coach who just doesn't have what it takes to lead and manage the players over the finish line. He has zero killer instinct and on top of that continues to ignore the fact that he's a ridiculously terrible offensive "thinker".

If he was smart he would have listened to general consensus in the college football sphere and brought in a legitimate offensive coordinator and turned the offense completely over to him. Unfortunately his ego won't allow that, apparently. And our AD, Scott Stricklin, is too feckless to get involved to make that happen.

Bottom line for me is I feel terrible for our players. They deserve MUCH better......

-snip-
It's one thing to lose. It's another thing not only to give the game away to a rival, but to do so in an embarrassing, undisciplined and 100% preventable fashion -- on national TV.

This was the absolute worst part of the game.

All the other stuff is bad enough. But when one of your players spits on an opposing player. I just can't think of a bigger embarrassment for the program.

Other comments:

I agree you have to give credit to USF...their coach staff and players. They are a very good team and very well coached.

I have no idea how it ends up with Napier.

What if we end up winning a bunch of games this season we are not supposed to win?

I guess our game this Saturday night in Death Valley against LSU will probably tell us more about what the future holds. I mean....what happens if we win? I think it's possible...... 🤷‍♂️

Bazza, when Napier came out throwing in that series around the 3 min. mark of the 4th quarter when all y'all needed to do was kill the clock, I thought to myself, "What is he thinking?"

I'm sure there were other examples you saw, but that one stood out to me!

I mean, not really?

Place in final poll by year, 1991-2000:
UF: 7, 10, 5, 7, 2, 1, 4, 5, 12, 10 - average ranking for the decade: 6.3
FSU: 4, 2, 1, 4, 4, 3, 3, 3, 1, 5 - average ranking for the decade: 3.0
Miami: 1, 3, 15, 6, 20, 14, NR, 20, 15, 2 - average ranking for the decade: 9.6

I'll give you the Urban Meyer years, but football was pretty amazing at all three big Florida schools for all of the 90s. If not for Miami's inconsistency it would be truly mind-blowing.

Florida can win and win big regardless as to how FSU and Miami are doing - they're in no worse spot than any other school in a time when players are bought.

Complete mismanagement of the clock at the end of that game too
Correct and the entire world saw it. No excuses for any coach with any degree of competence.

Billy must have never heard the expression "eat clock".

After a stop we get the ball with the lead and 3 minutes left in the game. On 1st down we throw and it's incomplete. Then we run on 2nd down and didn't get squat (by then the defense was ready for the run). And then another incomplete pass which of course stopped the clock. So we ran 27 seconds off the clock and gave them back the ball. Despite all the other issues on offense....this is why we lost the game.

As I said earlier - he should step away from running the offense. Period.

Funny, I predict Golesh to Gainsville after Billy gets the boot.
Yeah, he might be really good, but the whole reason I had reservations about Napier in the first place was that he looked like the next superstar at the G5 level in the previous three seasons before going to UF (11-3, 10-1, 12-1) .

It's just really hard to predict who can make the transition to a major football program. The difference is massive.

Billy fooled me for sure.

Bazza, I was at the game and I will tell you that USF defensive backs were on the Gator receivers like paint on a wall. They were very well coached. Florida had a definite advantage in talent along the LOS but USF was so well coached, they negated the difference. With the lead and 2:46 left in the game, I don't understand the play calling. Also, the two point safety when Florida centered the ball over the punters head was the real game changer. From there on out, it seemed USF knew they were going to win the game.

When we were wandering through the desert under DuBose and Shula, and OU was coming back under Stoops, they became my second favorite team. The color schemes, the histories, etc. made it seem a natural fit.

Until I saw how so many Sooner fans viewed Alabama. Outside of our resident Sooner fan who posts here, I can’t stand them. Hope they lose every game except when it benefits us for them to win.
Lived in Kansas from 85 to 89. surrounded by ou fans. I'd rather spend the weekend listening to rocky top on a non stop loop than have to talk to them.

There was a mutual admiration deal going on between the two fanbases there for a while but now they are in conference and we owe them a mudhole stomping.
I hear that a LOT from Bama fans, but I was here on Tidefans and saw the near-constant condescension from that fanbase. Yeah, 20-ish years ago Bama was in a dark time, but still had more NCs than OU. Even the "level-headed" posters some like here were very condescending at times.

IOW, I don't care for OU. At all.

Makes sense - if Napier goes, Stricklin probably goes, too (he extended McElwain then hired Mullen, followed by Napier - he's almost certainly the walking dead if Napier is fired).

So they'd need time to replace the AD and let him hire a new FB coach.
He also hired their NC basketball coach, although that is not comparable to football at UF.
