Congratulations on CNS; questions for Tide fans regarding the future

You know, I am not sure about the discipline problems. What I can tell you is that of all of the UT fans I know somewhere in the neighborhood of 60%-80% want a new coach. As for me, I am willing to see what Fulmer can do this year. I know that we have alot of freshmen that may be called on to step up. I also know that it should not be a problem to at least win 9-10 games. If we can do that then I am willing to give another year. If we cant then I am ready for new leadership. I do not think CDC will be his replacement. I think AD Hamilton has seen what a whole new direction in coaches can do for a program (i.e. UT's resurging basketball program). I look for a young coach with a new kind of fire, when the time comes. Cal does not worry me for one reason and that is if we lose that game, it does not hurt in the SEC and that is our first step to getting back into the hunt for NCs. What worries me is keeping pace with the SEC. Can CPF keep pace? recent history says no.

I agree with you on CPF keeping pace in the SEC. He just seems too stubborn on changing (and I mean changing to make a team better) certain aspects and like another poster said, he's become complacent with what the team can do every year, and that is never a good thing with any team, when the head coach becomes complacent.

JPW, I think, was amazing given the circumstances. Sure, he made some boneheaded throws, but it was his first playing full time in the SEC and I think he improved as the year went by. He accomplished all that he did accomplish with no running game support, horrible playcalling, and inconsistent O-line play. He may be able to break school records for QB every year that he plays at Alabama before he (hopefully) goes the NFL.

Welcome to the board, "The Third Saturday in October" has always been special and as pointed out the problem most of us here have is with your low life, lilly livered, lying, snake lipped, candy stealing from babies, Kripsy Kreeme eatin', false witnessing, slandering, SEC media days skipping, criminal coddling, witness coercing, back stabbing, job stealing, dog loving (in a Biblical sense), conspiring Head Coach:eek::eek:......... whew that feels better.

I have always grudginly admired the football team and hope that someday that the rivalry can get back to what it was before.

IMHO JPW has the tools to take it to the next level, watching him play under the pressure he endured last year and still put up the numbers he did impressed me. I see him being the difference maker more than once next year and beyond. He reminds me of Jay Barker with more athletic ability, and by that I mean he's a winner.

I am curious about the Vols this year, Ainge put up the numbers last year pretty much for the same reason JPW did and it was because of a less than stellar running game (or more to the point on our part, numbskulled play calling). That's one reason I think maybe JPW will not put up the same kind numbers as last year because he won't have to, but also he'll be able to be more effective and even more dangerous.

Do you think Ainge will be durable enough to last a full SEC season? What does your OL look like are they gonna be able to keep him alive? As last year I think D is going to be the bedrock of your team. We have many questions to be answered on D.

Hope you enjoy your stay here as you probably can tell we welcome all logical and reasonable fans. Although smack talk in not the order of the day but a thick skin will be in order at times.:wink:
Hope to see you on the Third Saturday........ I just hope we give you long ride home.:biggrin2::biggrin2:

Roll Tide and let the season begin!!!!!!

If we plan on scoring more than 16 pts per game his numbers will get better than last year.

I really don't think so, if the running game is effective there will not be a pressing need to pass as much. Aurguably his TD numbers could (hopefully they will) but hopefully he won't have near as many 3rd and a country mile because of two prior up the middle for no gain.

Whats up guys? First post. I must start by saying I am a huge UT fan. I also want to say congratulations on the new head coach. I am sure CNS will have you guys headed back up almost immediately. As you all know we have not had seasons to write home about here at UT lately. I have a couple of questions for the tide faithful. 1) How do you guys expect your expected climb back to the upper echelon to be (a couple of years or say several years? 2) How do you view this years match up between us to go?

.

This far out and not knowing the health and momentum of a team by October I can only answer that Tennessee has much more talent and should win.

As for the future, I think Alabama will be up and down, winning occasional big games but never consistent enough to challenge for the SEC until Saban gets his players in place on defense. Offensively we will do fine, Shula did recruit some talent to that side of the ball but defensively he left us with less that what we need.

It is not my intent for this to come across as racist or waving the Stars & Bars, but IMO a large part of Fulmer's discipline problems come from not only the type player he recruits, but also where they come from. Historically he has recruited heavily from the East and West coast and the metropolitan areas, Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte and these type kids are not the same kind of kids who grow up in rural or small town environments in the South. I do not have the exact numbers but I suspect the majority of his roster is not from TN. I think he did pretty well signing TN kids this year, but year in and year out he signs mostly out of state kids. Before the usual response about population comes up, TN's population is roughly the same as Alabama and Mississippi's. I think when it comes to recruiting he looks first at 4 and 5 players regardless of where they come from and obviously does not perform a very thorough background check into their character. I think this is catching up with him. I live in TN and have friends who are UT grads and some of them would be thrilled to see him step down. He relies on getting superior talent but since the Manning days his coaching skills have not kept up with the talent he signs. It is obvious he is one of the best recruiters in the business but his judgement as to a kid's character is suspect.
