Consolidated O-Line discussion - where has the 24-25 team been, and what do we think the goal is for 26?

I know the least about OL/DL positions. Having said that, who are the OL coaches AND/OR the type of schemes that work best?

When I played football it was simply hat on hat blocking schemes. Maybe an occasional lineman pulling, but nothing real fancy.

So educate me on what/who Bama needs.

If you fire the assistants at this time you commit position recruiting suicide.
Yeah. I agree that 4 - 5 assistants need to go. AFTER signing players.
And even then you BETTER make the right hire to replace them.
Normally, but what decent OL prospect wants to be coached by Kap?

This... But with Formby leaving and 3-4 others, our OL room is looking pretty thin if we don't bring in some serious guys. We can't depend on freshmen here, even though we have a pretty good group.

I dont think the plan is to fire the OL coach. I'm betting he remains.

That's quite possible.
If that's the case then CKD better hope there is a great deal of improvement from this season to next season.
He's putting his job on the line if he keeps him. If the line doesn't drastically improve next season and hes still the OL coach, CKD maybe exiting before year 4.

If that is the case then DeBoer is in year 3 of the
'Mike Shula how to get fired by keeping Bucket Step Bob" plan. We sometimes criticized apposing coaches for being mercenaries but truth is that football is very similar to fighting a war. In the end laws, legalities, morality none of that really matters, the winners survive the losers die under the boot. Kirby Smart has taken a lot of heat on this board for being a back stabbing (insert list of naughty words) but the truth is I always understood him. He knew what it took to win and wouldn't hesitate to throw his own mother under the bus if need be. They took a really tough loss against Ole Miss and I'm sure their fans are upset, but you can bet the farm he will move heaven and earth to make sure it doesn't happen again next year. I do not have the same trust in DeBoer to do what he needs to do. I don't believe there is anything in his coaching record to suggest he's the kind of mercenary you have to be to win at this level.

Exactly... If DeBoer is so blind to the ultimate point of his job being to win... And he keeps the OL coach and we get no better, then that simply adds to the data points that we need a plan in place. I mean, if it becomes clear over the next two years that he must be replaced, I hope they do it in an organized manner and don't fire him in the middle of the season and wreck the program. Not an easy answer, but there seem to be lots of knee jerk firings this year without a thought given to the plan.

We need a new OL coach. No way all the OL'men are busts. But its very likely the coach who's been coaching them has coached bad habits and techniques into them.

Agree.

Someone posted in another thread I think where we had the lowest YPC running the ball this year since the Ears Whitworth era.

I think we rotated about 8 or more OL this year (which is a strategy I also don’t like).

What is more likely…. That we absolutely whiffed on that many highly rated OL all at the exact same time or that we whiffed on 1 OL Coach?
