Could Star Jackson play this year?

Whats the odds of him playing this year? Could he be the starter later on this year? I noticed Saturday during the game he was standing beside Coach Saban if that means anything. I know this has been discussed before, but if you don't mind run it by me one more time.

He didn't play against W KY when we played 3 qbs. I expect he'll be redshirted.
 
If we needed a 3rd QB, it would be Darrah, right now. However, if we lost both JPW and GMc say....this week....I'd look for Darrah to come in, but Star perhaps to play significantly the rest of the year.

However, without that God-forbid situation occurring, he's gonna 'shirt.

I wouldn't expect to see Star unless JPW either regresses to the worst he's ever been or gets hurt and misses weeks or the year.


I look forward to the battle for QB next spring, but I must say I hope Star takes it. I'm looking forward to having a strong armed playmaker at QB, not just for another care taker and certainly not having to worry every week about if he can be more than he is as we do with JP most weeks.

I did expect to see him this year, but him not playing vs WKU says the staff wants to preserve him

Things would have to get really bad in order for Star to play this year IMO. He has not played to this point and the chances of him getting any meaningful playing time at this point are not good. Let him sit and learn this year and then compete for the starting job in the spring.

I saw Star up close at Fan Day. He needs some work in the weight room before he is ready for SEC action IMO. He has the frame, but he needs to get bigger and stronger.
 
not to hate on Star because he is going to be great, BUT if we get down to where he is playing in a game this year, well, I don't even wont to think about that :eek2:
 
I've been wondering where Star Jackson is, I havn't heard anything about him since he got recruited, is he red shirted? I expect he is, most QB's are their first year, but it's only for the better.
 
He needs to learn the offense and get bigger. Both of those take time. I look for Star and AJ to compete for the QB slot in the future. I certainly do not expect Coach to waste a year if SJ is not ready in either of the two areas mentioned above.
 
They will give him a red shirt. He will be red shirt freshman while Mcelroy is a junior and AJ will be given a redshirt in '09. If Mcelroy continues to beat out Star until he graduates Star will be a Junior when he takes the team and AJ will be a red shirt sophmore.
 
Don't waste a super talent, like SJ. I think CMS played Mike McCoy a few snaps his freshman year & wasted a year of eligibility. The way it looks now we may need to graduate some WRs, it's getting very crowded over there and a few may be getting hot under the collar about playing time & balls thrown in their direction anyway. I think the only way we play Star is because of injury. Just think we could have a 4 year starter in the SEC.

He benched 315 this summer so he is pretty strong already. 315 is not a bad bench for a QB.
