What if....

  1. Oregon loses to Arizona or Oregon State
  2. Auburn gets absolutely crushed by the Tide
  3. TCU goes undefeated
  4. Boise State loses to Nevada
  5. LSU loses to Arkansas
  6. Stanford loses to California or Oregon State
  7. Wisconsin loses to Michigan or Northwestern
  8. Nebraska loses to Texas A&M or in BIG 12 championship game
  9. Ohio State loses to Iowa or Michigan
  10. Oklahoma State loses to Oklahoma or a 2-loss Nebraska team

If I had list these in order of how likely each would occur, I would go:
#8, #10, #5, #9, #6, #2, #7, #1, #4 (with a big gap between #1 and #4).

2007 had a fairly crazy ending--LSU was ranked #7 in the penultimate BCS standings.

I want to say that the rules were changed after 2003...because of Oklahoma.
I think what was thought to be a rule back then was actually a parameter, and even it is no longer there. I see nothing in the BCS Selection Procedures that would prohibit a non- champion from being in the BCSNCG. In fact it would only take a couple of more things (SC beating AU in the SECCG and Arkansas winning out and beating LSU as bad as I think they will) added to this OP, to put Bama and Arkansas in Glendale. This according to the BCS Selection Procedures.

1. The top two teams in the final BCS Standings shall play in the National Championship Game.

No more than two teams from a conference may be selected, regardless of whether they are automatic qualifiers or at-large selections, unless two non-champions from the same conference are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the final BCS Standings.

BCS selection procedures

What that is telling me is that if Bama and Arkansas finish 1 and 2 in the BCS, then they would play in the BCSNCG and SC would be the third SEC BCS team.

It is also telling me if Bama is 1 or 2 they would play in the BCSNCG and SC would be the second SEC BCS team.
