not to be too obvious here, but steele is greatly missed. besides hendrix we have no post game. gee and riley and henrdix are going to be greatly depended on. to me all the guards (other than the two listed above) all have the same talent level and none of them seperate themselves from one another. may be a long year, but then again they could be a surprise team if they want to be since almost everyone is counting them out for this year.

True, but fortunately the way the SEC is built right now is shouldn't be too much of a factor as it is basically a guards game. We do have some bodies, though unproven, to bang around down there.

I think this squad will struggle at times but will show show nice flashes of a promising future.

I think Gee is hurt also...something with his knees maybe, hope not. He needs to be able to drive the ball, thats his game. With his lack of effort on defense already having bad knee's will slow him down even more. Not to mention the lack of depth coming off the bench.

I didn't see the game, but I hope that this year we can handle the "press" and make better ball handling decisions that what I saw last year when I was able to see us play on TV. I really don't think a "scrimmage" game measures how we will do against other competition.

Although I only saw about 25 minutes of basketball... keeping a four-year old on a leash it tough, can speak to some things.

First, while I continue to hate the high-post offense, we ran it the majority of the time I watched last night. We did press some... and when we did, we ran up-tempo at that juncture. However, the bread and butter still seems to be the high-post... can't tell you what I really think about it here.

Second, we do have trouble inside with personnel. Coleman hasn't improved as much as I would have hoped from last year and Knox doesn't seem to be a guy who will provide immediate help. Jemison, while improved, is going to be limited by size factors. Hendrix has slimmed down and is improved... he will be a beast. Problem is, you've got to have at least three serviceable post guys to run the high-post offense... and I'm not sure we even have two that can play 25-30 minutes per game.

Third, the kids (Hillman/Pickett) did OK... but neither look to be capable of providing immediate sparks in the backcourt. Probably, both would do well to have a lot of playing time in the early season before "breaking out." I was impressed with Torrence and his ability to get to the basket... his scoop shot from about 4-8 feet should be very effective when the offense stalls. Gee, while not mentioned earlier, is still the victim of poor shot selection. To be fair, he was playing on the lesser team... and probably felt more compelled to be agressive in his shot-making. Riley... what can you say... he can heat up on a moment's notice. And, he benefited greatly by playing with Hendrix.

As far as everything went, it's only a scrimmage. The important thing to see is what ideas related solely to personnel/philosophy and those that relate to both talent and effort. The second was somewhat hard to measure last night... but I'm having reservations about the first right now.

Oh well, that is why I wanted to go and see with our smaller team if that had changed.

Too bad.

I'm disappointed with this. I've grown to dislike the UA version of the high-post the last few years. I was hopeful when the adjustment was made two years ago when Chuck Davis went down when he went to a more motion-type of offense.

I read an analysis on another website (i'll omit naming it here so as not to promote another site) that said CMG will have to abandon the high-post with this team in order to be successful.

What a disaster!?! The Crimson and White Game has historically been a very good indicator of how Alabama basketball would look. Remember that year that Justin Jonus scored 40 points in the game and then went on to become an All-SEC player...ummm...I meant cause an All-SEC player to blow out his knee?

I am anxious to see how this basketball team will play, but we have to remember that this game is pointless.

I will agree wholeheartedly with that statement. With our lack of depth on the inside this year, we will get killed running the high-post all the time.

Simply put and you can hold me to this...we won't be able to break the press this year. UK and UT games I might not even watch they are going to be disastrous.

no offense, but if none of you guys noticed how great senario hillman is on defense, you weren't watching the same game as me. he puts more effort out onto the floor than anyone i've seen at BAMA in about 10 years, and he can jump out of the gym. if nothing else, he can provide a spark on defense. coleman seemed to have developed a mid-range shot, and hendrix was NOTICEABLY slimmer and much more athletic-he also hit 9-10 free throws. unfortunately, he still showed he did disappear some. this team seems to have much better chemistry than in years past, but less talent. I was pleasantly surprised to see more motion offense, rather than simply high post the entire game. if a second shooter can develop alongside riley, we may have a surprisingly good season. i'm less "gloom and doom" about this year than i was about last year. a .500 showing in the SEC and maybe a low NCAA seed is very possible.

Riley was obviously the star of the game.

As always, I was impressed by Justin Tubbs and his defense.

Mikhail Torrance did some good things, but I think he still needs to focus more on distributing the ball as opposed to driving the lane and putting up a 7-foot floater.

If Hillman puts in more effort than Antoine Pettway that is good news for the next 4 years.

How can you judge team chemistry at a scrimmage?
