As many of you are aware, I've been working in the arcade industry for most of my adult life.
Not long ago, I went to a friend's house, and he works with pinball machines as a hobby. He has completely converted and re-themed an old pinball machine. He now has the only known "Alabama Crimson Tide" pinball machine in existence today. I thought you would all enjoy viewing some pics of his very special pinball game.

That is incredible! Truly the work of an artist! What I'd give to have a 70's era pinball machine!

Say an "Eight Ball" or "Mata Hari"! I won many a drink playing those baby's!

Pinball games were the big thing when I was a teen. I spent a whole lot of quarters on 'em, jerking, shaking, snatching the machine around, trying to do everything I could without TILTING.

I wish they had had that one around during my heyday. Would have gotten a ton of play.

My one respectful suggestion would have been to have the Crimson Tide and Alabama in traditional fonts and color, instead of black with an non-traditional font.

Make no mistake, though, I love it. Beautiful machine and a great concept.

Is he keeping it, and will it be used or mostly not played and kept pristine?

This game was an original Gottlieb (The David Gottlieb Co.) pinball game. For those not familiar with the manufacturers of pinball machines, Gottlieb has always been among the premier names in pinball machine manufacturers. This particular machine has been completely reworked and is in full operating condition. Hence it may be used as such, but may also be kept for not only it's memorabilia collector value but also it's extreme rarity. It is, after all, the only one presently in existence.

The last I heard he was going to use it as a model and improve upon it. I'll call and ask him what he is going to do with that one. Since he's a huge :BigA: Crimson Tide Fan:BigA: it naturally is of value to him. I would imagine that if he offered it for sale, he wouldn't have long to wait for a buyer. :) :BigA:

Great job! I'm a pinball freak myself. Have a 1979 Flash in my family room.
Can you tell me what the machine started out as before he converted it?

Yes. It was a "Target Alpha", which was manufactured in 1976. I spoke with him today and he is now working on a newer version of the "Crimson Tide" pinball. He expects to have it completed prior to Christmas, and the good news is that it will be offered for sale. :)

BTW, not trying to toot my own horn here, but if you ever develop problems with yours, let me know and I'll try to help in any way I can. Besides driving to Maryland and fixing it myself, that is.
Just PM me.
