Alabaster, AL.
I read an article on one of the premium sites today on Darius Packer. Packer is a 6'0" 200 lb. corner from Vigor who is playing JUCO ball. He signed with West Virginia out of high school. The coach at Vigor was quoted as saying he thinks Packer may be a little better than BJ which I find hard to believe, but I've not seen Packer play.

Packer indicated Alabama has been showing interest in him the last few weeks and Packer was quoted as saying he is an Alabama fan. I really got the impression he would like to sign with Alabama.

My question is will he get an offer from Alabama? Considering our need for corners and the fact that CNS likes corners with good size, it seems that he may get an offer.

Does anyone know the probability of Packer getting an offer from Alabama?

The reports from Fort Scott Community College are that Packer has a strong character and is a big, strong, gifted athlete. He is 6'1" 205 lbs and runs in the 4.4 to 4.5 range. He is very good in press coverage and tight man-to-man coverage. Sounds like a very good CB prospect to me.

Packer is currently listed as a WVU commit. It will be interesting to see if CNS offers him.

Sounds good to me. Need DB's right now as it is but there will be two more open spots next season. :p_conf:

This one will be interesting to follow. I know CNS wants another CB and we may be down to Robby Green on our chart with Whitlock looking at So Car hard and pulling Bryant out of FSU will be hard.

Well someone who knows said he is on the same level of athletic ability as BJ just a little faster. BJ ran a 4.38 at the Auburn camp so that is stupid speed we are talking about. He is best friends with a corner back at WV so that will be the only thing that would make it a hard pull. Other than that people close to the situation feel there would be a very good chance for him to commit to ALabama. Put it to you this way. A coach said that if he had to take a corner and put him one on one with JJ that he would be the guy.

Here is the scoop on Darius Packer and the Vigor High - West Virginia pipeline.

I'm a very reliable source, I'm a 2002 graduate of Vigor High and I know Darius personally, he and my younger brother played football together, graduated together and they are friends. Darius is a huge Bama fan but Bama never showed intrest or offered while he was in high school. If Saban offered him today I'm confident that he would consider the Tide possibally decommit from West Virginia. He and Ellis Lanskser (CB at UWV) are close friends. Ellis graduated from Vigor in 2005, Packer committed to WV because of the Mobile Pipeline there and Ellis Lankster. Safety and track and field star, Abraham Jones (2002 Vigor grad) started the pipeline to West Virginia. Since he signed in 2002 West Virginia has been recruiting Vigor and the Mobile area really hard. Long story short, Bama could get Darius if they showed intrest in him.

By the way, Darius is a better athlete than BJ, in my opinion. I take that back, wait.....lol Thats a hard call both are good.
Darius is bigger, stronger, and just as fast as BJ. Darius runs a 4.4 in the 40.
The only edge that BJ really has over Packer is his throwing ability. Darius isn't a passer but he is a true running back and true corner and he's a hard hitter. In 2003 in a playoff game against Prattville he broke their starting qb's jaw....that was the hardest hit I have ever seen.

Packer is a lockdown type of back with great speed and size. He'll fit in great in Saban's defense.

That sounds really cool. Seems like a guy that could come in next year from nowhere and fill in at some role in the secondary. My question is whether or not he'd come in and be able to play 4 yrs considering how long he's been out of hs and in jc

This has been covered a bit, but from what I've heard Darius would be interested in going to Alabama. I believe he's been been to some Alabama games as well. I also heard that he has his grades in order. This is all second hand information but it would seem reliable.
