Wasn't that the game where Jackie Sherill was complaining about there being no danger and blasting Curry, only to get beat by Curry and Bama when the game was played?
Yep.

Curry and Steve Sloan were given a "you don't need to go there" warning and Curry went so far as to say we'd forfeit if it was a problem. Sherrill mouthed off and said, "Bear woulda been there!"

What's amusing is that right before aTm played TCU that year, a former player (George Smith) accused Sherrill of paying him to play at aTm and Sherrill "suspended himself" for the TCU game. He resigned later - and they'd just been put on probation the same week he was ranting about us. After Sherrill resigned, Smith recanted his allegations.

The best quote of all was Derrick Thomas:
"The only hurricane that blew in tonight was Alabama."

There wasn't any assurance on the hurricane's progress and path. It turned out that the weather was beautiful on the day the game was originally scheduled to be played but the decision had to be made days prior.

Alabama quarterback David Smith was still injured at the time of the scheduled game but available at the end of the season when it was actually played. This irked a few Texas A&M folks...

Where is this schedule info coming from and why haven't they just released the whole schedule for every team????
A few teams got their schedules, but it seems that Florida is holding a lot of it up with 5 concrete games next year. Everyone else was more flexible

ESPN is going to release the others in December

  • Texas A&M at Florida – Sept. 14
  • Tennessee at Oklahoma – Sept. 21
  • Georgia at Alabama – Sept. 28
  • Florida at Tennessee – Oct. 12
  • Alabama at Tennessee – Oct. 19
  • Georgia at Texas – Oct. 19
  • LSU at Texas A&M – Oct. 26
  • Alabama at LSU – Nov. 9
  • Texas at Arkansas – Nov. 16
  • Alabama at Oklahoma – Nov. 23
  • Auburn at Alabama – Nov. 30
  • Mississippi State at Ole Miss – Nov. 30
  • Texas at Texas A&M – Nov. 30

What in the world does Florida care about beyond Georgia and FSU?

In my mind, I don’t get too concerned with how many strong teams appear on the schedule, based on 2023 results. Conversely, I don’t give games against Wisconsin and South Carolina a pass, just because they both sucked this year. The keys to our season have been LSU, Tennessee, and Auburn for a long time. Now, adding in Oklahoma and these past two years, Texas, it gets harder.

It’s Georgia that needs to say its prayers following the completion of this season. They’ve been living large on the SEC East, and having Auburn and a couple Mississippi schools in the West to play. While Ole Miss was improved this year, UGA plays OU and Texas next year I believe, and Alabama again. It’s gonna get a lot harder for them.

If you want to be the best. You have to play the best.. Helps in recruiting, kids want to be televised in prime matchups.

With this schedule, the SEC just made it easier for other conferences to get more teams into the playoffs. The SEC is just going to knock each other off every weekend. If, by chance, any team goes undefeated with these schedules in the SEC, you might as well crown them national champions!
Probably will eventually get to 4 Super Conferences with each sending their top 4 or some other type of “fairness” crap nonsense.

just like the mid season (aka trade deadline) transfer portal that’s on the way.

Maybe, but none will look even remotely like the SEC. I said it then - you were nuts to add Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC. At least it doesn't start until the playoff field has expanded.

The other conferences would probably prefer to go back to 4 teams now. 🙄

Yep. I was hoping the SEC would always get 2-3 teams in the new 12 team playoff. IF the CFP committee would really keep SOS/SOR in mind, that may still be possible. But since they only care about the win/loss record, I'm not sure what will happen. I do wish Texas and OU were not in the SEC. The SEC has always been the toughest conference, and now it has gotten tougher. Not sure how much stronger the other conferences will get. As long as the other SEC teams have a tough schedule, to make it fair, instead of just Bama having a tough schedule, that makes it somewhat better I guess? I just don't want Bama to have a hard schedule and TN, UGA, Auburn have an easy one. RTR!
