Defensive Questions for Bama vs. UGA

This year's UGA schedule was a creampuff.

They finished both 2021 and 2022 with >3 games against top10 ranked opponents. In 2023 they will face a maximum of 3 - all in the post-season.
It might be a little short sighted to devalue UG because they have not beaten a top 10 team. I completely agree they don't appear to be as good as 21 or 22, but they might have beaten those higher ranked teams this year if they had played them. We just don't know.

They are methodical and consistent. Don't make a lot of mistakes. They are balanced on offense, and more vulnerable on defense to the run. Beatable for sure, but we need a strong 4-quarter game to get it done.

They are very slim, but the point is, they practice every possible situation that could possibly happen in a game. They show the players how to handle these situations so that just in case, they are prepared. The kick six is no different really. When you kick a field goal of any kind, you are told to cover the kick. The lineman may not be the best at covering a field goal but that was what they were doing. It didn't work, and the return guy did what he was told to do in that situation.
sometimes, luck is when preparation meets opportunity

You say that the schedules are different but Clemson was not a great team are you counting them? Oregon same thing as Clemson. So they played a better and higher ranked top 10 when played ole miss and mizzou this year. The schedules aren’t really different and easy all the years. You can’t count post season fit other seasons yet. Kind of writing the narrative to be how you want it. But I will end trying to get an answers. I will say their offensive scheme does seem harder to stop this year if Bowers and McConkey are healthy. Covering a TE as others have mentioned is a pain in this defensive scheme. I.e Pitts in that sec champ game. But other than the barn game Bama run d has been tougher this year and DBs a big improvement especially far less busts.

I have no idea how you're misreading my post(s).

UGA's schedule this season is weaker than previous seasons. It's been discusses to death and everyone under the sun acknowledges this. Therefore using the fact that their numbers are 'close' to previous years, despite playing an easier schedule, suggests this team isn't the same killer they had in previous seasons.

I don't know how to make it clearer than that. It's an observation.

Disagree? Take it up with everyone who isn't a fan of UGA.

I'm not devaluing UGA - one can note they're not the same as previous seasons without denigrating them. I'm simply pointing out that in 2021 Bama was likely the better team without injuries, and while Bama hasn't played a complete game in 2023 (yet?) Bama still has the highest blue-chip rating of any team in history.

Which is why I said Bama had a puncher's chance.

I have been told Brock Bowers is a full go for the game.

Ladd and Thomas will play, but could be limited.

For the first time in history though, receivers are Georgias strong point. Dillon Bell, Arian smith, Dominick Lovett, and Marcus Rosemy Jacksaint will all play at receiver as well

How am I misreading it? I am genuinely asking and curious not being snarky. You say the schedule is weaker. I am asking how? You can’t include post season since they haven’t played one this year. You haven’t answered a question other than saying it’s weaker without reason. They have had an easy schedule every year the last two no different. Clemson was not very good having one of the worst offenses in the country and were the only decent team they played that year. Oregon was an ok team starting to build their program that year but not great. Other than that the same schedule and easy east teams those years depending how you grade tenn. This year no mediocre Clemson or Oregon but top 10 ole miss and what 12 mizzou. Uga is very vulnerable this year but they were also in 21 as we know Bama took advantage in the SEC. That’s why I’m not sure you can say that team with a less explosive offense and better d is better than this years better offense but still very good d. I’m trying to explain myself and provide reasons I just ask for the same. I also think this Bama team at this point is probably better than the 21 team.

I think a lot of people are though, and are finding too much comfort in UG's weak strength of schedule. That's all I was saying. You and I agree they are not the same as they have been.

GA fan here, I joined bc after perusing a few threads I can say I appreciate the overall tone of the forum. Unfortunately I just got approved and have little time at the moment to read and post. Hopefully I get some time before the game.

Don’t worry, I’m no troll. Just a guy that loves CFB. I do enjoy engaging in some good hearted banter and such but I do try to be respectful.

Looks to be some very knowledgeable members here so I look forward to reading more posts and contributing. I’m more knowledgeable than most fans but by no means an expert, so I appreciate and enjoy learning from members that have a more in depth understanding of the game.

"They finished both 2021 and 2022 with >3 games against top10 ranked opponents."

In 2020 and 2021 they faced at least one top10 opponent in the regular season. They did not this season.

I literally cannot think of any way to post this any clearer.

That's huge.

" Pick one off"......hmmm.....that means getting your head around and looking for the ball, doesn`t it? At least on the longer routes? Shorter routes, you have to jump them.

I agree on pressuring/getting to Beck. Something nobody`s been able to do for what.....two years? Well..him and the guy before him.
Say what you want but Bama's CB defense has been balling out. It works.

Lot of good points on here.

Bama: Mix up the coverage calls. Blitzes to confuse them. Force them to make mistakes. Get to Beck often. We need to create 14-21 points leading into 3rd quarters. Put them in unfamiliar position. Play balanced offense. Go slow/Tempo. We just need to send message.

Reminder: The pressure is on Georgia. Lot of attention on them. Too much disrespect toward Bama and Bama thrives on that.

Good news. Two titans clashing in Atlanta and both need to be 100%. Looking forward to an awesome matchup.

I am sorry I am not sure the reason for the tone you have as I am just having a discussion.

Also to note.
2021 they played
Clemson #3 at time finished 10-3 #14
Ark #8 finished 9-4 #21
Barn #18 unranked
Kent #11 finished 10-3 #18

22
#11 Org 10-3 #15
#1 Tenn 11-2 #6

23
#20 Kent currently N/A
#12 Mizzou current #9
#9 Ole miss current #11
#18 Tenn current #21

Not a huge difference. Yes 21 was harder I think but last year debatable. My point not a big difference as you make it. Schedule is not even point originally and it is that why do people think this UGA team is worse. If schedule and stats are it fine but please don't make it seem like it was a big difference in schedule or stats. It is just a different team and year. I was wondering more based on actual player wise as stats are only good to a certain extent.

With this Bama team would you rather play the 21, 22 or 23 UGA team? That can help answer. Also my original comment was not directed at any specific person so please don't take anything personal as none of my comments have any tone just discussion.

I think it comes down to being able to stop the run game. Milton seems to be starting to turn it on and if Bame can hold him under 80 yards that secondary can really start to play games with Beck.

I really hope that I am wrong but I think they are going to score lots of points on our defense. If Bowers is remotely healthy he is almost impossible to stop and they have many other weapons, and, most importantly, their o-line has been very good and if Beck has all day to throw, we are in big trouble. Any QB that has the slightest bit of talent can eat a defense up if he has all day to throw it.

I think we will need at least 30; hope I am wrong.
