Defensive Tackle Recruits?

Obviously, the front seven will need to be addressed in recruiting this year. Does anyone know if we have any bigtime DT recruits on the radar? Just did a recruiting search and saw that we had only offered two DT recruits. In contrast AU has eight DT offers out and has interest from some bigtime recruits. Does CNS hold-off on offering some positions until camp like CMS did? I did not pay attention to how CNS recruited at other schools, so any insight into how CNS fills up his recruiting classes would be appreciated.

I am no expert by far, my friend, but i do follow recruiting and can tell you that CNS is most definitely going after defensive tackles and has offered many throughout the southeast - which happens to be a leading region rich in big, defensive talent this year..

already this year we've gotten recruits on the DL who could realistically grow into defensive tackles. but don't worry, we're offering physically big, top-talent guys right now, and offering early, i might add - by the end of this magnificent recruiting class, IMO, we should have a few top notch DTs.

The most comprehensive list anywhere other than maybe CNS's office is right here in the recruiting forum, no searching required. Just go to the 'Alabama 2008 Commitments and Prospects List.'

Its stickied so its always at the top of the page and easy to find. Its frequently updated on an offer by offer basis. It has many prospects with Alabama in their favorites that dont yet have offers and also lists prospects with offers. Its broken down by position so any position you have questions about are easily answered. The thread itself now has many pages discussing new offers, interested prospects, and Alabama's chances with those prospects.

We are in the mix for several highly rated DTs in this class and I'd expect to see us land at least a couple of them.

Brandon Lewis - Pleasant Grove, AL committed to us 2 or 3 weeks back so he got a offer.

roll tide roll

You are right. I mistakenly had Brandon Lewis listed in both the defensive tackle list and the defensive end list. I had him listed as a commitment in the defensive end list. I removed him from the defensive tackle list.

CECIL HURT: Defensive line still has long way to go

CECIL HURT: Defensive line still has long way to go
While it’s not easy to understand the situation on the defensive line, it is fair to point out that mobile, aggressive 300-pound linemen are not the most plenteous commodity in college recruiting. They are scarce, and coveted. It’s less easy to fathom a team coming up short on linebackers when it’s an obvious need, but that is what has happened.

That situation has left Alabama with the potential for a Bundt cake defense -- one with a pudding-soft middle. That’s not a confection that Saban particularly likes. In the long run, he and his staff will recruit their way out of it. In the short run, they can only take what they have and try to coach their way out of it -- first, by instilling toughness, which was Saban’s mantra on Saturday.

DT are hard to come by these days and I would hope that we are showing more interest in the big fellas. There is probably a good chance that we have had contact with other DTs, however we have only offered three at this point:

1) Chris Martin a DT from Fort Walton visited over the weekend and is now listed as high interest on scout.com. He is definitely a big guy at 6-5 290lbs. Still, it is unclear if he is a bigtime player since his only other offer is from Central Florida.

2) Templeton Hardy has offers from everyone. However, it looks like he is Miss State bound. It is still early though so maybe we could him.

3) Marcus Forston does not have us listed on scout.com as having an offer from or interest in Bama, so I do not think that we are in his top 5. Still, he is listed as having medium interest on Rivals. Again, it is early but it does not look good for us.

With the way that kids are committing early these days I would like to see more guys get offers.

Thanks for the post Surfer. Linebacker is a position of need as well. We were already thin, but the switch to a 4-3 has really made it look a lot worse. CNS has already moved some of our slim DE to LB to fill that position. Also, with With Saban's love of DB's, I would like to see some 3-3-5 until we get a chance to recruit the right players. I am sure that CJK would make himself available.

Martin is a Rival's pre-eval 100 member, so it's a pretty good chance that he's a big time player. As far as Fortson, we've just recently offered him and I think we're starting to get some more interest from him. Either way I'm not concerned one bit, CNS and staff WILL land some DTs in this class, or guys who they believe can become DTs.

FWIW....Martin needs to actually work this year..he was getting pushed around A LOT by the offense ,even on his own team. He originally was an OL until this past year when there were position changes. He has good size and pretty good speed, but REALLY needs to get serious. He has TONS of potential. But he wants to go where his g/f goes, so schools will be recruiting him and his girl.
I told him last year that he could own the recruiting world, but he better get serious and work hard on and off the field. I have known him since before his middle school yrs.

He keeps being told that it is silly to try to recruit the g/f too, LOL!! Oh well..
Kids...when will they get it!?
