Carl Peterson's induction speech was really good I thought. Seeing Marty Schottenheimer crying as Carl talked about DT showed the true impact that DT had on others! Derrick your are truely missed by many!

I heard a great radio interview of the former Chief DC about Derrick. The coach described how Derrick always came late to meetings, etc so that he would be fined. For Derrick it represented one more way to donate money to charity. The DC thinks Derrick had given most of his money away to charities and other worthy causes before he died. The coach was getting chocked up (as was I) by the end of the interview.

Thomas' life was cut way too short, but what a difference he made on and off the field.

I heard the same interview, the coach was really not looking forward to going the HOF induction as he didn't want to have to relive all the hurt and pain. Really good stuff.

I'd like to say Derrick Thomas was always and will always remain my favorite player to ever wear Crimson & to ever play the game of football. If my tabulations are correct I was 5 years younger than him, when I was 15 & 16 watching him dominate in college it was truely inspiring. His game against Penn State was the most awesome & dominant defensive performance I've ever seen. I never got to play football even in HS because my mother wouldn't let me. I was a fairly decent athlete and when I'd play in pick-up games or intramurals in college I always said guys let me rush the QB. People were always surprised at how good I was at it because I didn't play on the HS team etc. When they'd ask where I learned to get after the QB I'd say I don't know, but the truth was I was inspired to be like my childhood hero Derrick Thomas and always tried to copy what he'd done on the field!

Thomas is probably the last athlete I'll ever feel that way about. I'm too old now and know too much to see guys that can run fast and hit hard as my "hero", but I'm not ashamed to say Derrick Thomas will always be a hero too me! I'm just happy that his legacy as a football player is now complete.

Roll Tide & RIP DT,
Phillip

Derrick was incredible..the fastest linebacker i have ever seen as far as his ability to get in the backfield and pressure the qb..i remembered watching him in person in 88 when we beat Penn State 8-3. He caused havoc the whole day.

Long time coming.

Friends of mine and I once sat behind him at a Gymnastics meet at Coleman, he entered via the floor and crawled over the railing and sat down in front of us. 2 Things: 1. I've never been glad to have my view partially blocked before and 2. None of us could build up the nerve to actually speak to DERRICK THOMAS.

Re: Derrick Thomas' Day on Sunday

Can't wait. I'll be there for the game this Sunday. I went to the HOF induction in Canton and it was an emotional ceremony.
I'm sure this will be also.
I gave up my SEC championship tickets to be there in person for this honor.
Even though no Chief has worn #58 since Derrick's death, its an honor overdue to have his number officially retired by the team.
IT'S your day Derrick.
GOD bless DT.

I was in my late teens when DT was at Bama. He was my favorite player on the team at that time. Very few can or will come close to being the player DT was at the Capstone. RIP DT.:BigA:
