In looking at our rooster, I do not see how we can play 4x3 the whole game...if at all...just not enough bodies up front with that DT stapled to them....and what we have is not on the large size.

We can start out 4x3, but, we will have to rest the guys with 3x4....fact is....we may be stuck with 3x4 unless our 2007 DT guys qualify and make it onto the front....probably need some LBs that are frosh too.

That's not bad.....look what Meyer did with a bunch of true freshmen.

Gimme your thoughts.

Get ready for agressive pressure defense! Like what was stated above, it will more than likely be a base 3-4. However, it will sometimes be disguised as a pre-snap 4-3 and then have an end drop off or a DB come up. Also, look for blitzes to come from EVERYWHERE. They may even come off the sideline. ME LIKE!;)

Since when did the 4-3 ever come into the picture with Saban? He said at his first press conference as our coach that he was going to run a 3-4 over/under, which would make the defense at times look like a 4-3 but it isn't.

I do know for sure that we're going to blitz, blitz, blitz...well as long as Saban thinks the guys are ready to do that.

If the DL can get penetration you won't see as many blitzes because there's no need for it. It's when the DL isn't getting enough penetration in the backfield to disrupt plays is when most coaches decide to blitz.

Best case scenario is our three down linemen get good backfield penetration and we won't need to bring the house as much.

If we had a dominant nose tackle I think a three man front is possible, but I don't think we do. That 92 defense with all it's stars had a big hulking nose tackle...trying to remember his name.... Grant?...no...hmmmm...

I'm eager to see how a 3-4 will play out. A ton of pressure will be put on our LBs, one of our thinest positions. Also, with one less player at the point of attack, it seems to me that a 3-4 will give up a bit more to the run.
