Question: Do you dip, or have you quit dipping?

I tried that Smokey Mtn stuff a few years ago. I think if I had gone out back and scooped a sample from the compost pile, added some sorghum to it, I might could have made a similar product.

I'm one week into quitting Longhorn fine cut natural. Been dipping for 30 years, at least 1/3 can/day. Before I quit, I cut the number of daily dips in half. I was doing 10-15 small dips each day. I did that for a couple of days then cut that in half until I was basically down to one dip per day. I also did not dip at times when I enjoyed it most like after eating, with coffee, when driving. Then I quit.

What has helped me a lot is Golden Eagle Straight herbal chew. The flavor reminds me of powdered snuff. Sunflower seeds, beef jerky has helped to. Plan out your tobacco cessation. Order several samples of herbal chew to see if there is one you like most. Then order several cans to use use when you get an urge to dip. Worry about breaking the dip habit later, but for now, worry about breaking the nicotine addiction.

Whether you taper off or quit cold turkey, you will have withdrawal symptoms. Your mind will come up with all kinds of options to take just one more dip. There will be a gnawing feeling in your mouth for another dip. You may have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep. You may be grumpy, edgy, sad, tired, and have tense muscles. Read on the internet how to do progressive muscle relaxation to get rid of tense muscles and anxiety. Just don't give in. Dip the herbal or chew on something else. For most, after about 2-3 days of no tobacco, the most intense withdrawal symptoms begin to ease up.

I'm glad someone pulled this thread back up. I am coming up on my third week of tobacco-free. Had my last dip two Sundays ago. I aim to stick with it this time.

Good luck man, you have more will power than me. I tried a couple weeks ago and couldnt get through one day.
I did what the poster above did....I cut my usual dips down in half for a week, then cut that down in half for a week. Then, when I got it down to a dip a day, I knew I was ready to give it up for good. I started to find that I usually dipped when I was bored, so I found something else to do instead of dipping. My first week I thought I was getting a sinus infection because I kept waking up in the middle of the night in sweats, but it was withdrawals.

I just finally had enough, you know? I never really WANTED to quit this badly. Now that I wanted it, I'm able to do it.

Yeah i should try that.. The first thing i do in the morning right after my feet hit the floor is put a dip in.. then i take a shower, shave, spit my dip out, brush my teeth, and then immediately put another one in.

I can relate to so many people on this board. In the early eightys I smoke and dip. I dipped at work so the people I worked around didn't know that I smoked. Why I don't know but that was my frame of mind. Later I just smoked and every now and then I would try to quit. My father quit around 1992 and I said to my self if he can quit so can I. That was my new years resolution but really I could not quit that nite. Alabama was playing for the national champion the next nite so I waited to that nite after the game to throw my smokes out the window going home.
I had to quit drinking beer for a few months until I got over the worst of the withdraws. The third week was the worse, thank God for a good wife. So from that nite of the national championship until now I have never looked back.:)

Me too. Same day and all. Unreal. Skoal Straight Long Cut was my downfall until my wife started complaining about the smell, so I switched to Apple. I miss it, but I'm doing fine by drinking more beer.

That is pretty cool! I started in High School nearly 20 years ago with Copenhagen, went to Kodiak, went to Skoal and spent the last 3 or so dipping Grizzly. My wife was good about not nagging me to quit....I knew she wanted me to, but she always said I'd quit when I was ready and not because she nagged me to.

The hardest part of the first week was when I was sitting in my hotel room watching the Braves, after I'd had a few beers. So, I even went a week or so with no beer just for giggles. I couldn't have imagined how GOOD I felt in the mornings, waking up without those two poisons having been in my system......that was motivation in itself to stick to my guns with the dipping; my mouth has never felt better or cleaner.

I started dipping when I was 12 and quit when I was 22. I just quit cold turkey...two days before I got married. I do get the desire from time to time, but I haven't had any in 11 years. Very tough to quit, but worth it.

I have wanted to quit for about a year now, but have had no luck. I have been dipping since 13 and just turned thirty yesterday. Maybe this thread will help motivate me a little more after I get thru reading this and spit my dip out. Everyone I know here in North Alabama dips, so that makes it rough to quit cause everytime me and the buddies go golfing, fishing, hunting, play PS3, ride 4-wheelers, watch Bama games, or do anything..........everyone has a dip in!!!! Its more of a habit for me, cause I can do without the nicotine because I have done it many times before. I tried all the non tobacco snuffs and they just dont work for me. I am thinking about going cold turkey and sucking it up. Wish me luck!!
