The difference I've seen in MI from his freshman year to this has been astounding. Last year, you could see his potential and talent. But the improvement in his vision and balance has been incredible.

Is it just me, or has he even improved over the last month since the SECCG? I have always compared his running style to Emmitt Smith, but last night, I was watching him closely, and I swear I could see some Barry Sanders in him as well. There was one play (don't remember when in the game), when he cut through the line, gracefully changing directions about two or three times, and then somehow saw and hurdled JJ's arm near the ground, and went for a few more yards.

I've got to admit that though I've thought he was truly incredible most of the year, I still wasn't entirely sold on him being one of Bama's all-time greats. Even after the Heisman. I thought that he may have peeked and maximized his potential. I thought that TR might catch him next year and eat into MI's playing time. But watching him last night, I'm starting to wonder if we might have not just one of Alabama's all-time greats, but one of Football's all-time greats on our hands. As in some sort of Emmitt/Barry hybrid type great.

Do you think he'll continue to improve? Do you think he'll repeat the Heisman next year?

Bama only loses three starters on offense next year, and figures to be an offensive powerhouse. Michael Johnson will be tough to replace, but most of the rest of the line will be back and will have a year's worth of experience and chemistry. Though we lose some important defensive players, I don't think we'll get any worse. The young talent on the defensive side of the ball should be able to step up without missing a beat. Donta should be able to pick up where Rolo left off. The biggest shoes to fill (literally and figuratively) will be Cody's - you just can't replace a guy who plugs up the middle like he does. Still, we should open the season at #1, and I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say we could go wire to wire. Ingram should start the season as one of the front-runners.

Richardson's a great young talent, and may very well be the second Bama player to win a Heisman. But from watching Mark last night, I think TR may have to wait until his Junior year to see any "co-starter" type role, especially if MI hasn't yet peeked. And I'm starting to think he hasn't. Is there any reason to think that he won't perform at the same or higher level next year?

Will he have any significant competition around the country? All of this year's other finalists are moving on. Tebow, Gerhardt, McCoy, Suh. Even Bradford.

If we are in the title hunt again (and we should be), and MI continues to improve, do you think he'll be only the second player in history to win the Heisman twice?

Thoughts?

I dont think so. I think richardson has more of a role next year sort of like in this game, both had over 100 yards i think that will be more of the norm next year.

It is possible but highly unlikely IMO. Trent would have to get hurt early in the season. Next yr we will use Trent more with Upchurch leaving. Another thing is buzz from the practice fields is that red-shirt FR RB Eddie Lacy is the most impressive player on the scout team. Lacy will be getting snaps next yr as well as MI and TR. And if the buzz is correct then I think it will be more than what we saw of Upchurch.(I know he was injured much of the yr but really minus the VT game he did nothing but block and run out in the flat for dump passes)

Edit: Don't mean to sound unappreciative of Upchurch, cause I am far from it. After the VT game I thought he was going to have a huge SR season, but he got hurt with that dag gone high ankle sprain that took forever to heal. Easily has to be one of the top 3 blocking backs in BAMA history or at least the recent history. And he saved our season against the lowly Barners!!

He will be a pre-season favorite, and that helps. All of the other kids in the race this year are moving on to the NFL, which also helps. If we go undefeated again, he just might...

No way Ingram wins the Heisman next year. I love Mark Ingram, and Im glad he won, but running backs usually have to do a lot more than he did this year to win it. He got lucky.

And by lucky, I mean he got lucky that there were no others who were more deserving. I think he was the best player in the game this year. But, that also speaks to the level of the other players that he was competing against.

I think the chances are slim, but I do believe he will improve. He will improve and his numbers may drop off as balance continues to occur for the Alabama offense.

Richardson will get more carries. Lacy will play. The passing game should continue to improve. But I'd love to see him win it. It's been proven that it's possible to get the individual recognition without costing the team's chemistry and togetherness.

I don't think so. I believe Trent is too good, not to have a bigger role. With all the experience, especially at QB (Greg will be allowed to do more early in the season) coming back, I expect the ball to be distributed more next year.

He might, but Lacey and Richardson will cut into his carries. BUT he didn't have a great amount of carries this year and still won. If he is able to produce a great amount on less carries then I would say the chance of him repeating are there. It will be interesting for sure.

Unfortunately our backs will have to settle for about a hundred yards each each game so he won't exactly have Heisman yardage. But no one will doubt his value. Not after they play us anyway.
