Wish I went to Tuscaloosa for college
Hey all, I thought I share with you about something cool back here. My wife told me yesterday that the school she works at (she's a math teacher) had an speaker that talked to the students of her school earlier the day about "making good choices throughout your life." She told me that the speaker did mention that he played football at Alabama and won two national championships. I nearly fell out of my chair when she told me that because we're in Missouri and you don't hear stuff like this back here. Anyway, I asked her for the name of the guy and she said she thinks it sounded like Don McNeal. So I just did research on that a minute ago, and yep he was a DB, played for Bear back in late 70's. I just thought it was awesome. I would love to know more information about this Don McNeal guy. Just thought it was really cool to have a guest speaker that played ball with Bear to come all the way up here to talk at my wife's high school.

Roll Tide Roll!!

Don was great . Remember him well . I'm not all that awake yet but , I believe he was also the safety that played with the Dolphins for several seasons . Believe he was All-Pro a few times .

Yep, Don McNeil is from McCullough, AL which is a small community near Atmore, AL (a town about 40 miles N of Mobile). He made a very key stop during the "Goal Line Stand" against Penn State that sometimes is overshadowed by the final stop. I think it was on 2nd or 3rd down, but he came off of coverage from his man in the back of the end zone, covered some ground and stopped the TE cold on about the 1 yrd line, saving a TD.

He played for Don Shula and the Dolphins for years (I'm also a big Dolphins fan ;) ). While in the NFL he used to hold a football camp in Atmore during the summer and would bring several players from the team with him. He's a good, Christian man, and I heard him speak at church in his hometown of McCullough about 9 or 10 years ago. I remember he told a good story about working hard in the fields as a kid and that plowing fields behind an old stubborn mule was probably one reason why he was so strong in his legs and was a naturally fast. :)

He's one of many of those old school Bama guys that played hard for The Bear, went on to have nice careers, and have went on to become great role models for the next generation.
