I read on the Tuscaloosa News Football forum that Don Shula has basically moved to T-town for the summer and is spending it with Mike on coaching strategies.

Anyone know if this is true or just a bunch of internet bull?

If he is here then that's great. Soak it up.

I hope it's true! Let's face it, as much as we all love CMS, it's his first rodeo as a Head Coach. What an excellent mentor his own pops would be! Folks, if we'll all just hang on through these next couple of lean years, I promise, we won't be disappointed!!

I don't know if the rumors are true but as they say, with every rumor, there is a little truth to it. I believe Don Shula is probably spending alot of time with his son, and let's face it, when your father-son relationship mixes with a Big Time NFL coach and a Big Time football program at UA, I can imagine that talk goes on.

Does everbody remember how mistake filled Mark Richt's first season with Georgia was?? Remember the Auburn game for instance? Mike Shula is behind the 8 ball with everything that we already know (scholarships, etc.) but don't think that he won't tap into his natural resources by the name of Don Shula.

I bet if Don Shula is spending alot of time in T-Town it's probably got more to do with grandkid strategies than coaching strategies. However, I am sure that our coach isn't hesitant about asking for advice.

He's probably observing in a very low key manner, then offering him advice in private.

I don't think it will really have any bearing on what plays are called or what types of D we run, its more likely his advice may be focused on how mike deals with a certain player or assistant, At the most he might analyse some film just to see if he sees anything the other coaches might have missed. So many years of experience gives Don a unique insight in that area. Its a resource few college coaches have and he'd be a fool to not take advantage.

I'm looking forward to fall. Young players can be a pain to watch, but they can also surprise and delight because they usually don't know they are supposed to lose.

That sounds great, but I'd imagine he'd be up here to spend time with the grandkids. However, I wouldn't put it past Don(the greatest coach of all time in the NFL - Remember, I'm a Dolphins fan) to help Mike through the summer.</font>

Take off those aqua colored glasses DD, everyone knows Vince Lombardi was the best, followed by Joe Gibbs.

Good one TommyMac...

As much as I respect Lombardi, the fact Shula had the undefeated season and record for wins, plus the fact I wear THICK Aqua colored glasses, puts him on top in my book

I'm sure after the painful season in 2003, CMS is more than willing to take any advice offered by his father. But I don't expect Pops to interfere unless he is asked for advice by Coach Shula. I agree with bamanut, if we can all tolerate the pain and agony to come in the next couple of years, we will be happy with the results in the future. I could be wrong, but I believe we are in good hands with Mike Shula. And I'm not so sure the next couple of years won't have some positive results.
