Normal Tide fan:
We've got some problems in the O and D lines and if we don't fix them, (name of team) is going to beat us.

Eeyore:
We don't have a chance. We may as well pack it in. I wish we didn't even get picked because (name of team) is going to roll us.

got it?
Yep, glad to know I`m not an Eeyore !

Clemson's defense is good - very, very good. But Alabama's offensive line handled that defense better than any team they have faced all season.
You are right, and I will readily admit I didn't see it coming. Our O-line had consistency issues all year, we struggled to sustain drives because of it, and had to rely on home run plays to put up a lot of our points. This was probably the best effort all year against the better teams we've played, and clearly Clemson's D-line is the best we've faced.

So, according to this definition, no one is an eeyore here. Glad we got that cleared up.

Pardon me but I very much disagree with this line of thinking - or perhaps the sentiment that the thought could lead to (so as not to create a straw man).

It's like that phrase "Well you know a jetliner can actually fly with just one functional jet engine, so if one goes out, you can still make it just fine." Alright but I'd like both engines functioning properly all the same.

It's certainly valid that we CAN win with this team playing the way it does, but let's not pretend that it's perfectly ok to have only 1 engine running at max capacity. I'd like both on all the way, please.
Exactly. Great post!

Very accurate post for me also... excellent.

HUH?? Who "won" the TOP stat?

(Hint: the winning team.)

Compare that to last year's Clumpson game or this year's IB. How can you say the D was out there too long?

Could we have held on to it more? Sure. But some of y'all are making it sound like all is lost. Forever.

Need to box up some ebay crap that sold. Probably better, as the vocal minority wants to run down the victory. Sorry, but that is "eyeore talk", and it is getting old.

OK...............one last thing...................

Someone started a thread, that somehow grew to over 100 pages, about Tua vs Jalen. Went out of my way, to avoid it, and dang if someone isn't trying to start another one. Give it a rest. At least until after A-Day.

Oy vey.................

Over and out!
I normally see "eye to eye" with you, but I don't get why you'd question my assertion that Jennings is on the field late in the game because we weren't up by more a bigger score.

Obviously CNS didn't feel comfortable subbing 2s and 3s and we still had starters in when the backups could have been playing if we are up, say, 34-6.

TOP had nothing to do with it...the lack of scoring was the problem and that is the concern going into next week. Fromm won't gift wrap 14 points for us next week and we'll need to score more than 10.

I'm very glad we won the game but it's a legitimate concern that we seem content with another poor offensive showing that is shrouded in a dominant defensive performance.

Bottom line, if Georgia plays a good game I believe we'll need more points next week.

I’ll admit, some of you are irritating with your “fire everybody” and “the sky is falling” mentality once something isn’t done to your taste. Bama is playing in a 6th NCG, and some of y’all are flat out spoiled.

If we not winning 66-0 every week, it’s a problem. If Tua isn’t playing, some of your brains are exploding. Thank God the team does not have the mindset of some of you, Bama would have lost last night.

I just hope my posts have not wreaked of eeyore-ism’s, if so, my apologies fellas. But c’mon man, some of y’all need some faith, and another hobby in life

I agree - but FWIW I think we come by points a little easier than they were metered out against Clemson.

Perhaps, but Georgia had to really respect the play action/RPO threat of Mayfield and their down field passing threat.

I'll get labeled an eeyore for saying this, but that's something they don't have to worry about as much with us.

I think they'll sale out to stop the run...at least, that's what I would do. Load the box, spy Jalen and take the risk getting beat over the top a few times.

The good news is Clemson basically thought the same but we still ran the ball effectively, but the points we missed will probably be needed against Georgia.

It has nothing to do with not winning 66-0, it's leaving third down conversions and points on the table and it happens with alarming regularity. You can't continue too give the offense Mulligans because the defense is playing lights out. Maybe the defense played lights out because we had northwards of six third down conversions and they had a chance to rest and regroup. You can't count on the short field, NOTs, and big plays to win games because most every Tide fan on this board has seen one missed tackle it bad defensive series cost us a game because the offense struggled to be consistent or put points on the board the entire game. It's Shula-itis and the Dubose era's lingering effects and it cost us a championship last year.

Possibly - when was the last time a pocket passer (no real threat to run) beat a Nick Saban defense?
And what will Fromm do when he has several guys in his face and gets hit or sacked every time he passes. Hoping some don't turn Fromm into Tom Brady the way some turned Clemson's defense into the "Steel Curtain?

It's not Fromm beating Bama by himself, but when you combine his decent passing ability with their A-plus running game that's where they are a notch above Clemson's offense.

In the matchup thread I mentioned that I think our D will impact Fromm's timing and accuracy, but he's still good enough to make us pay a few times if he's given a little time.

The game will probably come down to which team can convert 3rd and -5. We need to keep them 3rd and +5 as much as possible!

A few things:

Fromm's play against the Sooners is a huge anomaly. That was a result of their terrible defense, not Fromm's sudden emergence as a super star. He had all day to throw, and the Sooners' secondary is horrid. Also, most of the stats put up by GA were amassed against very weak teams. The SEC east is horrible. So don't look at their stats - watch the film. Fromm is better than Bryant, but he is not better than Jalen, and he is a statue.

I will be watching their games over the next few days, but the 4 games that I have seen thus far show me a team with weaknesses on offense and defense that Alabama can exploit.

I get the point about Stidham, but the reason he torched us is we didn't pressure him very much. UCF did. If we get the kind of pressure we got on Kelly against Fromm it'll make all the difference.

I like the matchup. We typically handle games like this very well.

The plays that scare me - the wildcat stuff run with Michel at QB. So hard to defend.
