Did anyone else seem impressed with the game Eryk Anders had? I felt like he was brought in on obvious passing downs and caused a lot of quick throws and just general havoc in the backfield. I bet when he lines up in the future, other teams are going to start taking notice of his location.

Where in the heck did this kid come from?? He's playing phenomenally well but he may be the least known player we have. Is he a junior??...senior???....
I know what most of our recruits have for breakfast...lol....and I can't tell you one thing about this young man. Somebody clue me in.

I believe this kid came from somewhere is Texas. He was a very late addition to one of the Shula recruiting classes. And if I remember correctly I believe Coach Connelly was the one who recruited him.

From San Antonio, TX (or nearby), I recall.

He was a smallish-but-fast defensive lineman in high school. Believe it WAS B. Connelly that recruited him.(B.C. had Texas to recruit).

This is based on memory . .

I believe he is a junior this season.

He's becoming quite a rush specialist and has been lined up all over the place . Sort of like how DT was used and more recently Roach - to some extent during his pre arm brace junior season .

I was in San Antonio when he was recruited... He went to Smithson Valley, a lower class 5A powerhouse in Texas... He was either the last one in or next to last... I remember that my buddy, a huge horn fan, told me that we were really scraping the bottom of the barrel with guys like Anders and Arenas... Both were totally overlooked by other major programs... I would scrape the bottom of the barrel looking for guys like this any day...

You can tell he has the instinct to know how to get to the quarterback. Being a lighter D-lineman in high school he's probably spent his entire football career being a speed rusher. A perfect fit for a passing situation specialist. 28 tackles for loss is nothing to sneeze at for high school.

Believe it or not , Eric played DT in HS @ 215 pounds :eek2: It was out of necessity as his team apparently just didn't have any real DT's on their squad .

Yeah, him playing DT is probably the only reason we lucked up and got him. He apparently was overlooked by the larger programs because of his weight as a DT. The thing is that he was also a sprinter on the track team, which Coach Saban is making good use of these days. His senior year of HS, he had like 104 tackles and half of them were either sacks or for losses so he must have excellent instincts for the ball. LB would seem to be his natural position in college, but he had to learn how to play it first. With another year under CNS, it wouldn't surprise me to see him in the NFL one day as an OLB.

Incidently, as well as I can remember, he played on the 5A level in Texas and garnered some honors as well, so it's not like he escaped attention by virtue of playing in some obscure tiny little classification. We just got dang lucky with him. :)

He has been impressive as a pass rusher, actually he and Williams on the strong side have been pretty good at rushing the passer.

Who is this Eryk Anders guy... and other stuff!

Standing on the sidelines wasn't always easy for Eryk Anders. Through two seasons, the Alabama defensive player had no position and little playing time.

"There were some times that I would talk to my family about transferring," said Anders, a 6-foot-2, 227-pounder from San Antonio. "But God and my family kept me here and this is what I am doing now. They have been a big part of my success."

Out of nowhere, Anders has emerged to become a third-down playmaker, recording 14 tackles with a half a sack through six games. As a down linemen called the "rabbit rusher" in passing downs, he said he doesn't consider himself a specialist.

"It's just my role on the team," said Anders, whose team practiced Wednesday in its bye week.

Does anyone else get the impression that Ian hangs out on tidefans?? :eek2:

Those quotes are taken from a taped interview (don't know if Ian was the interviewer) hosted on another Bama website.
